Description
Shin Shimomachi (known as Jack Cobbler in some regions) is a young boy living in Sakura Motomachi during the 1960s. Despite poverty, he maintains a cheerful outlook, centered around his mother, Sachiko Shinomachi, his only family. When the yo-kai Tamamo no Mae steals Sachiko's soul and orchestrates her fatal car accident, Shin plunges into despair and attempts suicide by drowning. Itsuki Takashiro interrupts this attempt, becoming Shin's closest friend.
Receiving the Yo-kai Watch Elder Zero from Tae Arihoshi's grandmother allows Shin to see and interact with yo-kai. He partners with his guardian spirit Suu-san and Nekomata. Alongside Tae, a sorcerer who sees yo-kai, and Itsuki, Shin works to reclaim the stolen souls of his mother and Itsuki's sister. Their quest leads them to confront Shien, a yo-kai seeking dominion over the yo-kai world who commands Tamamo no Mae. Shin competes in a yo-kai tournament to stop Shien, ultimately succeeding in restoring all stolen souls.
Shin later marries Tae Arihoshi. He ages into a wealthy businessman, evidenced by his limousine and staff, and becomes a philanthropist. Approximately 50 years later, Shin upholds his promise of eternal friendship to Itsuki, now reincarnated as Lord Enma. Meeting Enma at the bridge where Itsuki once saved him, Shin expresses his desire to become a yo-kai upon death to reunite with Enma permanently.
Within the broader continuity, Shin features as a playable character in "Yo-kai Watch 4," traveling across dimensions with other protagonists. Key actions include recruiting yo-kai with hidden potential, investigating the haunted Takashiro Manor, and battling the Shadowside Yamamba. During these events, Shin unlocks Suu-san's evolved "Susano'o" form and receives a unique scarf from Tae as equipable gear. Post-game, Shin continues interdimensional travel and recruits Enma, noted to have 100% compatibility with him during a sumo tournament.
Shin possesses tan skin, scruffy denim-blue hair, and gray eyes. He typically wears a beige sweatshirt with orange shoulder stripes, dark blue shorts, and black shoes with white soles.
