Benawi originates as the Samurai General of Kenashikourupe, serving Emperor Inkalla with unwavering loyalty. Defined by a strong sense of responsibility and pragmatic nature, his leadership prioritizes the nation's people above all. When Hakuowlo's rebellion overwhelms Kenashikourupe, Benawi accepts defeat, kills Inkalla to spare him potential torture and humiliation, and attempts suicide. Hakuowlo intervenes, convincing Benawi to join his cause instead.
Following this transition, Benawi becomes Hakuowlo's trusted Warmaster and later serves Tuskur in the same capacity. His crucial military expertise and strategic acumen prove vital in consolidating the new nation. He frequently expresses irritation when Hakuowlo neglects his duties as a ruler, reflecting his commitment to disciplined governance. Physically, Benawi is distinguished by black hair, green eyes, and a muscular build. His attire typically includes a red cloak with white trimming, grey pauldrons, fingerless gloves, and armored boots. He wields a polearm proficiently, especially while mounted on his white woptor steed, Shishe. Their bond dates to Benawi's adolescence, when he aided Shishe against an abuser before reuniting years later.
Benawi's relationships evolve significantly. His partnership with fellow general Kurou remains steadfast through their service in both Kenashikourupe and Tuskur. Conversely, his dynamic with Oboro shifts from bitter rivalry to mutual respect; they duel repeatedly, with Benawi consistently besting Oboro. After Oboro assumes leadership of Tuskur, Benawi accepts the role of Warmaster under him. A distant familial tie to Oboro's royal lineage influences Benawi's support for Oboro's succession, having recognized this lineage during their initial encounters.
During the Yamatan invasion of Tuskur preceding the civil war, Benawi defends the nation against General Munechika. Their confrontation reaches a stalemate despite Munechika employing her mask's powers, cementing a grudging respect between them. His later appearances confirm his continued service as Tuskur's Warmaster, upholding stability during conflicts.
