Description
Rin Kumaneko is a key operator in the Earth Defense Corps Earth Granner, holding a position of significant responsibility despite being a twelve-year-old elementary school student. She undertook the role to assist her father, the organization's commander. Rin possesses a serious, stoic, and highly intelligent nature, taking great pride in her general competence. She maintains a collection of toy cars, robots, and action figures, claiming it serves professional purposes, and exhibits a fondness for pandas reflected in her clothing and surname.
Her family relationships are central to her character. She shares a close bond with her father, Ikuzou Kumaneko, though she becomes angry at his harsh treatment of her older brother. Rin is deeply devoted to her brother, Kakeru Kumaneko, and is determined to be reunited with him after his mysterious disappearance. This is illustrated when she creates a clay sculpture of a saber-toothed tiger, his favorite animal, and explains her reasoning to classmates. She was profoundly shocked to learn Kakeru had become an enemy piloting the black Earth Granner Saber Panther for the alien Dark Spinner.
Rin's commitment to her brother is a driving force. She was devastated at his first appearance as an adversary and concerned for his safety when his partner, Gao Granner Saber, began to run wild under Dark Energy influence. With assistance from teammate Go Mach, Rin went to the battlefield to persuade Kakeru to abandon Saber and return to Earth. Following an explosion that ejected Kakeru from Saber, she ran to embrace her weakened brother, crying with relief that he was safe. However, Kakeru soon ran off again to pursue Saber, leaving her devastated once more. She felt relief again when Kakeru formally decided to rejoin Earth, though she was disappointed by his subsequent assignment to remain in America.
Within the Earth Granner team, Rin maintains friendly relationships with her classmates and fellow members, Raiga Kudou and Kuga Kudou. Her relationship with Go Mach is also friendly, though she tends to be critical of him and finds some of his behavior embarrassing. Rin is highly perceptive, immediately deducing Go Mach's secret identity as Granner G, the driver of Gao Granner Tyranno, and was later officially informed of the secret by her father and Dr. Bariki Kudou.
