Uryoku Chōno is an amateur magician performing street magic shows in a park. He consistently fails to impress with his obvious tricks, struggling to attract or keep an audience. During one park performance, he encounters Saiki Kusuo. Saiki's psychic powers allow him to see through every illusion effortlessly. Mistaking this ability for supreme stage magic skill, Chōno develops deep admiration and begins calling Saiki "master," believing him a fellow magician.
Chōno was previously married to Midori Nendou, making him the former stepfather of Saiki's classmate, Riki Nendou. At his introduction, Chōno is homeless, often performing on the streets with his partner, Michael. Despite his lack of success, he persists in his magic career, experimenting with comedy routines and circus animals to improve his acts. He occasionally receives unintended help from Saiki, who intervenes to avert complete performance disasters.
Chōno later appears on a televised magic show. Saiki, who usually enjoys television as an escape from his telepathy, is surprised by Chōno's unexpected appearance. This moment underscores Chōno's ongoing dedication to magic and his continued misinterpretation of Saiki's powers as advanced illusionist techniques. Over time, Chōno gains more experience as a magician, showing gradual professional development while persistently viewing Saiki's interventions as mentorship in magic.
