Description
Dwight Greenhill rose through the ranks of the Free Planets Alliance to become Chief of Staff to the Space Fleet Commander and later Alliance Investigation Chief. A respected leader, he stood among the first to recognize Yang Wen-li’s strategic brilliance, foreshadowing his daughter Frederica’s future role as Yang’s adjutant. After the Alliance’s catastrophic defeat at Amritsar, Greenhill’s disillusionment with civilian leadership deepened, spurring him to collaborate with Arthur Lynch—a disgraced former POW and longtime friend—to form the National Salvation Military Council. Their coup seized control of half the Alliance’s remaining military, aiming to impose martial law with minimal bloodshed, though Greenhill struggled to restrain his subordinates’ brutality.

The plot unraveled when a botched assassination attempt on Yang exposed fabricated evidence linking the coup to Imperial leader Reinhard von Lohengramm, followed by a massacre of protesters that alienated public support. Yang’s tactical victories at Doria triggered mass defections to his forces, isolating Greenhill’s faction on Heinessen. Refusing to deploy civilian shields when Yang destroyed the Artemis Necklace, Greenhill prioritized national survival over tactical advantage. In their final encounter, Lynch confessed to manipulating the coup under Reinhard’s orders before killing Greenhill in a firefight.

Though estranged from Frederica during the uprising, their mutual respect endured despite opposing loyalties. Greenhill’s doomed crusade—a blend of principled reformism and authoritarian overreach—exposed the futility of salvaging a fractured democracy through militaristic means, hastening the Alliance’s collapse.
