Description
Adalbert von Fahrenheit hailed from an impoverished lesser noble family in the Galactic Empire, born in 765 UC. His early military career unfolded under the stagnant Goldenbaum Dynasty, where he deliberately restrained his tactical skill to avoid threatening his superiors. This caution led Imperial leadership to dismiss him as ineffective and insubordinate, stalling his advancement despite his capabilities.
During the Battle of Astarte in January 796 UC, Fahrenheit commanded a fleet within Reinhard von Lohengramm’s expeditionary force. He distinguished himself as the first to recognize the strategic validity of Reinhard’s plan to evade Alliance encirclement, an insight noted by Siegfried Kircheis. This earned Fahrenheit the vanguard position for the engagement.
When the Imperial Civil War erupted in 797 UC, Fahrenheit joined the Lippstadt League under High Admiral Willibald Joachim von Merkatz. He stood apart as one of the few professional military officers within the largely aristocratic rebel coalition. After Duke Otto von Braunschweig's death and the League's collapse, Fahrenheit surrendered at Geiersburg Fortress on Merkatz’s counsel. Before Reinhard von Lohengramm, Fahrenheit’s proven competence secured his place in the reformed Imperial Navy. He was promoted to admiral and pledged loyalty to Reinhard’s faction.
Fahrenheit participated in Operation Ragnarök, the Empire’s invasion of the Free Planets Alliance spanning 798–799 UC. His fleet fought at the Battle of Rantemario but was not deployed at the decisive Battle of Vermillion. Following Reinhard’s establishment of the Goldenlöwe Dynasty, Fahrenheit attained the rank of High Admiral. In this role, he oversaw the execution of João Rebelo’s murderers, reacting with particular fury to their attempt to draw parallels to themselves.
His final engagement occurred in 800 UC during the Battle of the Corridor at Iserlohn Fortress. Tasked with obstructing Yang Wen-li’s forces, Fahrenheit’s fleet encountered devastating crossfire upon exiting the corridor. To shield the Imperial retreat, he positioned his flagship, the *Asgrimm*, at the rear. Mortally wounded during this defense, Fahrenheit chose to remain aboard his crippled vessel rather than evacuate, resulting in his death at age 35. He received a posthumous promotion to Fleet Admiral.
Throughout his service under Reinhard, Fahrenheit became known for aggressive offensive tactics, his fleet rivaling the Black Lancers commanded by Fritz Joseph Bittenfeld in ferocity. Despite his noble lineage, his impoverished roots and professional military ethos defined him, culminating in a final act that prioritized the fleet’s preservation over personal survival.
