Description
Zazel leads the Yo-kai Council and acts as the primary antagonist in "Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan!". His longstanding service to Ancient Enma, the previous ruler of the Yo-kai World, ingrained in him a deep-seated belief that humans corrupt Yo-kai society, fueling his misanthropy and driving his actions.

In the film, Zazel orchestrates a political coup by falsely claiming Lord Enma contracted a human illness, seizing temporary control as de facto ruler. He decrees all Yo-kai must return from the human world to permanently sever human-Yo-kai relationships. To enforce his rule, he seals Lord Enma within a barrier and manipulates council members Duke Doggy and Aristokat into supporting his regime.

Confronted by protagonists like Jibanyan and Hovernyan, Zazel battles them fiercely, transforming into a monstrous tentacled form and later fusing with Duke Doggy and Aristokat to become the powerful Zazelmare. His defeat requires Lord Enma's intervention, who reveals he feigned imprisonment to test Zazel's motives. After a decisive battle, Lord Enma's arguments about human-Yo-kai coexistence prompt Zazel's ideological shift, leading to his tearful acceptance of Lord Enma's vision and renewed loyalty.

Beyond the film, Zazel appears in later media including "Yo-kai Watch Shadowside" and "Y School Heroes," consistently serving as Lord Enma's loyal assistant. In "Shadowside," set decades later, he supports Lord Enma during conflicts like the battle against the Oni King Rasen and aids in rebuilding efforts after the Yo-kai World's destruction, adopting a Shadowside variant design while retaining core visual elements. In "Y School Heroes," following the Yo-kai World's devastation by Mazera's forces, Zazel's soul transfers into a new body alongside Lord Enma's, continuing his role within the reformed Y-Academy.

Zazel's design features pale gray skin, white hair, and blue garments accented by a black robe and a staff topped with a horned skull. His transformation unleashes dark purple tentacles and enhances his physical capabilities, reflecting his volatile nature. Folklore inspirations tie him to the Nurarihyon, a Yo-kai chief known for imposing his presence as an uninvited authority figure, aligning with his political role.
