Description
King Enma, reigning monarch of the Yo-kai World under the name Kouen, ascended to power following his grandfather Ancient Enma’s death. Tasked with governing Yo-kai affairs and preserving equilibrium between human and supernatural realms, he balances regal duty with an inquisitive nature. Disguising himself to wander the human world, he observes interactions between humans and Yo-kai, cultivating friendships like his bond with Nate—a connection he occasionally exploits to circumvent restrictions imposed by the Enma Note’s laws.

His rule merges benevolence with unwavering justice. He tempers stern judgments with compassion, sparing Ed Zoff’s family from the Infinite Inferno after reflection, yet his wrath flares when provoked, as seen when Zazel’s seeming demise ignites a vengeful surge of latent power. Initially at odds with Zazel over human-Yo-kai relations, Enma forges a partnership of mutual trust, transforming the skeptic into a devoted advisor committed to his vision of coexistence.

Expanded lore reveals his past lives, including his human identity as Itsuki Takashiro, a selfless brother who perished saving his sister and later fused with Shien, exiled prince of the Mikado tribe, to become Yasha Enma—a warrior battling threats like Soronaki. This union eventually splits, crystallizing into the benevolent Lord Enma and his estranged half-brother Lucas Schiffer, born from residual malice.

Combat prowess defines Enma through the hellfire-wielding Enma Blade, unleashing techniques like "Incinerate" and "Supreme Enma Blast." His Soultimate Moves vary across games, from column-obliterating strikes to X-shaped slashes. Adaptability marks his strategy, utilizing bracelets in *Yo-kai Watch Blasters* to shift roles between tank, healer, or ranged attacker.

Media arcs chronicle his clashes with adversaries like Chairman Zazel, who impersonates him in *Yo-kai Watch: Enma Daioh to Itsutsu no Monogatari da Nyan!* to sever human-Yo-kai bonds. Later, in *Yo-kai Watch Shadowside* and *Y-Academy*, he battles the Oni King Rasen and navigates an alien-ravaged world before reincarnating as Emma. Ancestral ties to the Enma tribe’s wars with the Oni underscore themes of legacy and unity.

Relationships shape his journey: Lucas’s sealed existence and forgotten lineage as Ancient Enma’s son complicate their kinship, while alliances with figures like Jaou Kaira—a half-human Enma descendant—mirror struggles between bloodline purity and inclusive leadership. Through these trials, Enma emerges as a bridge-builder burdened by heritage yet driven to reconcile fractured worlds.
