Description
Sorey hails from Elysia, a secluded village of seraphim, raised by the seraph Zenrus after his mother Selene perished in the Dawn of Chaos shortly after his birth. As Elysia's sole human resident, his isolation fostered exceptionally high resonance, allowing him to perceive and interact with seraphim, especially his childhood friend Mikleo. Bonding over their shared passion for archaeology, they immersed themselves in studying the Celestial Record, developing an intense fascination with ancient ruins and artifacts. This sheltered existence cultivated a kindhearted nature, though it left him naive regarding human society, possessing earnest optimism but limited comprehension of worldly conflicts.

His life transformed irrevocably upon discovering the unconscious human knight Alisha Diphda in ruins near Elysia. After aiding her, Sorey and Mikleo followed her trail to Ladylake upon learning of threats against her life. There, amidst the chaos of the Sacred Blade Festival, he forged a pact with Lailah, the Lady of the Lake, ascending to the mantle of Shepherd—a legendary guardian tasked with purifying malevolence and hellions. This role granted him unique abilities, including purification and armatization: the power to fuse with elemental seraphim, wielding their strengths in battle. His initial journey demanded mastery of these powers while navigating the treacherous human politics and warfare between Hyland and Rolance, constantly challenging his required neutrality as Shepherd.

Throughout his quest, Sorey gathered a circle of seraphim companions: Lailah (fire), Mikleo (water), Edna (earth), and Dezel/Zaveid (wind). Armatizing with each unlocked distinct elemental techniques; fusion with Mikleo yielded water-based archery, while merging with Edna granted geokinetic prowess. Human allies joined him, notably Alisha, who initially served as his Squire before departing when her low resonance strained him, and Rose, a high-resonance assassin who later became his primary Squire. These bonds tested his self-sacrificial tendencies, exemplified when he hid his deteriorating eyesight to spare Alisha worry.

Sorey's ultimate confrontation with the Lord of Calamity, Heldalf, unveiled his tragic origins: Heldalf was a general cursed by a previous Shepherd using the seraph Maotelus during the invasion that destroyed Sorey's birthplace and orphaned both him and Mikleo, irrevocably linking their fates to Heldalf's malevolence. After initial defeats and trials at four elemental shrines, Sorey ultimately overcame Heldalf by understanding his suffering. To cleanse the accumulated malevolence from the land, Sorey then entered a prolonged, restorative sleep, implying a future reunion with Mikleo centuries later during a ruin exploration.

Extended media explores divergent paths for Sorey. In Tales of Asteria, corrupted by a black mist, he was sealed by Mikleo, later reemerging as a self-proclaimed Lord of Calamity opposing humanity. Tales of Crestoria depicts him performing charitable acts like delivering presents in Port Sparking. Tales of the Rays involves him aiding interdimensional travelers in Tir Na Nog, utilizing armatization stabilized by a spirit ring. These narratives consistently reflect his core traits—idealism, archaeological passion, and leadership—while challenging his resilience against corruption or multiversal threats.
