Description
Isabel Magnolia, an orphan raised among the refuse of the Underground City, was found near death and rescued by Levi Ackerman. With her relatives deceased, she joined Levi and Furlan Church, forming a tight unit skilled in theft using self-taught omni-directional mobility gear maneuvers. Their expertise made evading authorities feel like a game. Isabel formed a profound bond with Levi, calling him "aniki" (older brother) and showing deep respect and emotional dependence; his criticism, like calling her an idiot for poor math skills, could reduce her to tears until he comforted her with a hair ruffle. Her relationship with Furlan involved frequent clashes due to opposing personalities—Furlan calm and pragmatic, Isabel impulsive and energetic—yet they shared mutual loyalty and effective teamwork.

She possessed green eyes and auburn hair typically in two pigtails. After one pigtail was forcibly cut shorter in an Underground altercation, she trimmed the other to match. She often wore a thin necklace with an attached ring and was notably shorter than Levi's 160 cm. Outspoken, headstrong, and confident in her abilities, she used boyish speech ("ore") in the manga, shifting to more feminine pronouns ("watashi") in the anime. She claimed a natural affinity with animals, mastering horseback riding almost instantly upon joining the Scout Regiment, but struggled with human interactions.

The trio's path changed when Erwin Smith captured and coerced them into the Scouts. They initially agreed as part of a scheme to assassinate Erwin and steal documents for Underground noble Nicholas Lovof, who promised surface citizenship. On their first expedition beyond the walls, Isabel displayed courage inspired by Levi, assisting in defeating an Abnormal Titan. Later, separated from Levi during a rainstorm, Isabel and Furlan were ambushed by Titans. She attempted to defend Furlan after his horse pinned him but slipped during an attack. Dangling from her gear, she was crushed against another Titan's back by a second Titan while calling out for Levi. Her death spurred Furlan to fight back futilely, leading to his demise. Levi later discovered Isabel's severed head.

Her legacy endured in Levi's memories, fueling his survivor guilt and self-blame for her and Furlan's deaths. She later appeared among the fallen comrades in Erwin Smith's final hallucination during the Battle of Shiganshina. Her name, of Hebrew origin meaning "God's Promise," paired with a surname referencing the magnolia flower.
