Description
Arcueid Brunestud originates from the Tsukihime visual novel and appears in Carnival Phantasm as a central figure within its comedic reinterpretations of Type-Moon characters. Her background establishes her as the White Princess of the True Ancestors, a race created as planetary defense against humanity's corruption. Unlike others, she initially lacked bloodlust and served as an executioner targeting fallen True Ancestors and powerful Dead Apostles. This role defined her existence until the 12th century, when the priest Michael Roa Valdamjong manipulated her into drinking his blood. This triggered a berserk state where she exterminated most True Ancestors and inadvertently transformed Roa into a powerful Dead Apostle who stole a significant portion of her power. Following this, she chained herself to a throne, entering prolonged sleep and awakening only to pursue Roa's reincarnations across centuries—a cycle repeated 17 times.
In Carnival Phantasm, Arcueid's personality retains core Tsukihime traits but amplifies them for comedic effect. Her portrayal emphasizes a whimsical and socially unaware demeanor stemming from extended isolation and limited exposure to human society. This manifests as childlike curiosity and a lack of understanding regarding social norms, like casually appearing at Shiki Tohno's school without authorization. Her interactions highlight straightforward enjoyment of simple pleasures, particularly food prepared by Shiki, which becomes a recurring motivational element. Her attempts to resist vampiric impulses—a consequence of both Roa's betrayal and Shiki Tohno's initial attack that weakened her—are referenced, comically depicted.
A defining aspect is the "Phantasmoon" magical girl parody persona. This alter ego wields a staff resembling Medea's from the Fate series and battles absurd antagonists like mushroom-themed monsters. Within these segments, other Tsukihime characters are reinterpreted: Akiha Tohno serves as a comedic villain with schemes involving harmless activities like caring for stray animals, while Ciel's exaggerated obsession with curry becomes a frequent joke source. This framework satirizes genre tropes while utilizing Arcueid's inherent power set fantastically.
Her role within the Carnival Phantasm ensemble underscores her status as an unfazed observer amidst chaotic events. While characters from other Type-Moon properties experience exaggerated traits or recurring gags, Arcueid often reacts with calm acceptance or mild curiosity. This contrasts with characters like Shiki Tohno navigating romantic entanglements or Shirou Emiya naively managing relationships. Her dynamic with these characters remains comedic, avoiding Tsukihime's darker conflicts for situational humor like her aversion to garlic causing illness after consuming Shiki's instant noodles.
Her True Ancestor powers, while not central to the comedy, are occasionally referenced or visually implied. These include immense physical capabilities, regeneration, and connection to the planet Gaia. Her financial independence, facilitated by Merem Solomon's assistance converting gold into currency, allows freedom of movement without resource concern, though her disinterest in material possessions like clothing is noted.
