Description
Alexander Kozachenko, known as "Buddy" or "Sasha," grew up in the Eastern Slav Republic with close friends Irina and JD. He became an elementary school teacher alongside Irina, and they fell in love, becoming engaged. Government forces bombed their school during the republic's civil war, believing it aided pro-independence fighters. The attack killed Irina and many students, driving Buddy to join the revolution.
Fighting alongside JD and Ivan Judanovich, an Ataman of the Council of Elders, Buddy helped capture U.S. agent Leon S. Kennedy after Judanovich stopped a Licker from killing him. Buddy interrogated Leon in a basement hideout, distrustful of his claims despite Leon's combat skills. When government soldiers attacked, Buddy helped JD and Judanovich escape. During the retreat, Judanovich—infected with Las Plagas—succumbed and begged Buddy to continue the fight. Buddy reluctantly killed him to end his suffering.
Fueled by vengeance, Buddy retrieved a Dominant Plaga sample and injected himself, gaining control over Lickers despite knowing the irreversible consequences. Returning to a rebel-held church, he discovered JD infected and transforming. After Leon killed the mutated JD, Buddy rejected Leon's plea to abandon bioweapons, insisting their use was no different from conventional warfare. He escaped the church before its collapse.
Using his Plaga abilities, Buddy commanded Lickers to attack government forces during a battle beneath the presidential palace. He targeted President Svetlana Belikova, enraged upon learning the Elders betrayed the revolution for oil. As the Plaga's physical toll intensified, causing severe pain and near-paralysis, he survived encounters with government Tyrants through uneasy cooperation with Leon. Buddy saved Leon by ramming an APC into a Tyrant, while Leon fired rockets to divert others.
Overwhelmed by the Plaga's progression after the battle, Buddy asked Leon to kill him to prevent his transformation. Leon refused, emphasizing their duty to live as witnesses to bioweapons' horrors. Instead, Leon shot Buddy in the spine to sever the Plaga's neural control, leaving him paralyzed. Later, Buddy is seen in a wheelchair, determinedly approaching a school, having resumed teaching. Leon’s canteen is attached to his wheelchair.
