Description
Baldroy, commonly called Baldo or Bard, serves as the head chef of the Phantomhive household. A sturdy American with dirty-blond hair and turquoise eyes, he dons a chef’s uniform, a long apron, neck goggles, and a perpetual cigarette. His demeanor reflects his U.S. Army past: tough, pragmatic, and prone to military jargon, labeling the manor a "battlefield" or mice as "hostile forces."

Born amid the American gold rush, Baldroy began as a farmer with a wife, Joanna, and son, Baldroy Jr. A devastating attack on his village by Native Americans claimed his family, driving him to enlist. He earned the moniker "invincible private soldier" for surviving harrowing battles, though survivor’s guilt haunted him after his platoon’s annihilation. Adrift, he crossed paths with Sebastian Michaelis during an Arizona skirmish, who recruited him for Phantomhive Manor—valuing his combat prowess over culinary finesse.

Baldroy’s "cooking" involves flamethrowers and explosives, yielding charred meals he defends as patience-building exercises—a deliberate contrast to his wartime haste. Beyond the kitchen, he steps into leadership during crises, directing fellow servants when Ciel or Sebastian are absent. In the Murder Arc, he steadied Mey-Rin and Finnian after Sebastian’s disappearance, insisting they uphold their duties to Ciel.

He fosters a familial bond with the staff, balancing gruff mentorship with protective loyalty toward Mey-Rin and Finnian, chiding their missteps while shielding them from harm. His rapport with Sebastian mixes grudging respect for the butler’s efficiency with irritation at his formality. Wartime instincts drive his calm pragmatism, favoring survival over sentiment.

Visions of his deceased family in the Blue Revenge Arc underscore Baldroy’s lingering guilt and quest for redemption, juxtaposing his violent history with his role as the manor’s guardian. Yet he clings to his post, finding solace in service to Ciel and camaraderie with the household—a fractured soul mending through duty.
