Lieutenant Otis "Bugspray" Hacks served as an Elite Trooper and second-in-command of Fort Casey's Roughnecks 2-0 K-12 team. He ascended to acting commander after Carl Jenkins ordered the arrest of Major Henry Varro for disobeying orders during an Arachnid Queen mission. During the Battle of Fort Casey, Hacks survived alongside Ratzass and Holy Man. Rescued by Lieutenant Daugherty's A-01 team, they evacuated on the Fast Attack Ship Alesia. During the evacuation, Hacks saved fellow trooper Trig from a Warrior Bug and aided her during the ship's departure. Aboard the Alesia, Hacks invited Trig to his quarters, forging a relationship where she revealed her personal history and the significance of her family-made sniper rifle. Trig requested he bury the rifle in her hometown if she died; Hacks responded, "Don't get killed." Hacks later volunteered for the mission to locate the missing starship John A. Warden. Discovering the ship under Arachnid Queen control, he supported Trig's assassination attempt but could not follow her into an air vent due to his size. After the ship crashed on Earth, Hacks accompanied Varro to confront the Queen. En route, he discovered Trig's body and retrieved her rifle. Ambushed by Warrior Bugs and mortally wounded, Hacks used the rifle to repel multiple attackers, sacrificing himself to buy Varro time. He held his defensive position against the Arachnids until death. Known within his unit as a "handsome playboy," Hacks maintained a close friendship with Ratzass. His callsign "Bugspray" reflected his dedicated combat role against Arachnid threats.
