Description
Makuwari operates as a ronin and professional fuse hunter in Edo during the Tokugawa period, driven by bounties for eliminating fusé—hybrid beings merging human and canine traits. He wields an unusually long sword resembling a nodachi, carried on his back. His appearance features petrol-colored hair, olive eyes, and a distinctive eyepatch concealing an injured right eye—a wound inflicted by the fusé Shino during an earlier violent clash.
Initially aiding the shogunate's siege against Shino at the shogunal keep, Makuwari abandons his allegiance when the shogunate's gunmen betray him, attempting to kill him alongside Shino. He reveals a hidden entrance to the keep for Shino, distracts the gunmen to enable Shino's escape, and ignites the keep to create chaos. During this act, he sustains multiple gunshot wounds and two fatal arrow strikes. His dying words to Shino express disillusionment with humanity's inherent betrayal. He perishes in the confrontation.
