OVA
Description
Manami Kinjō is a childhood friend and next-door neighbor of Kio Kakazu, the protagonist of Cat Planet Cuties. She has short brown hair and brown eyes, and she typically wears her school uniform or casual skirts. From a young age, Manami harbored a strong ambition to join the CIA, an aspiration that drives much of her early behavior. Her room is filled with listening devices, surveillance equipment, and a collection of guns, reflecting her deep fascination with intelligence work and military hardware. She was enrolled in a CIA recruitment program and operated under a supervisor with the codename JACK, though she later believes she lost this opportunity after helping to rescue the alien Eris.
Manami’s personality is that of a tomboy with a quick temper and a gruff exterior. She is highly assertive and can be violent when embarrassed or angry, often lashing out physically at Kio during awkward or lewd situations. Despite this rough demeanor, she is a loyal friend and genuinely cares about those close to her. She is also notably insecure about her femininity and worries that Kio sees her as merely one of the guys. This insecurity motivates her to actively encourage Aoi Futaba, another love interest, to pursue a romance with Kio—a decision rooted in her belief that she has already missed her chance with him and that she would rather see him happy with someone else than lose him entirely.
In the story, Manami initially takes a confrontational stance toward Eris, viewing her as a rival and an alien threat. Over time, however, she becomes a protector of Eris after switching sides, moving into Kio’s house alongside Aoi and Eris. Her role shifts from antagonist to ally as she uses her training and resourcefulness to defend the group from various threats. Her key relationships include her long-standing friendship with Kio, a competitive yet cooperative dynamic with Aoi, and a gradually warming bond with Eris. She also has a personal assistant android named Yun Fat, which she uses for combat support.
Manami undergoes noticeable development throughout the series. Early on, her feelings for Kio are hidden behind her tough facade and her matchmaking efforts for Aoi. She eventually admits to Aoi that the reason she pushed her so hard was to force herself to give up on Kio, believing she had waited too long. Later, after a series of misunderstandings—particularly her belief that Kio thought she had a boyfriend named JACK—she finally confesses her true feelings. This confession tempers much of her earlier insecurity and aggression, allowing her to become more open and emotionally balanced.
Notable abilities include her proficiency with firearms, military tactics, and outdoor survival skills, all of which she developed through her CIA training. She is physically capable and often takes on combat roles, though her impulsiveness and tendency to underestimate others can lead to mistakes. She is also highly perceptive in tense situations, but her explosive temper occasionally compromises her judgment. Overall, Manami Kinjō is a fiercely loyal, emotionally conflicted young woman whose journey involves reconciling her tomboyish independence with her vulnerable romantic desires.
