Description
Maki Itokazu is a high school teacher and faculty advisor for the film club, counting Kio Kakazu among its members. She simultaneously heads the Japanese branch of the covert organization Beautiful Contact. This group actively works to ensure humanity's first encounter with extraterrestrial life strictly adheres to classic science fiction ideals. Maki coordinates operations via encrypted chatrooms, using "For a beautiful Contact" as the members' recognition signal.

Her perception of aliens is rigidly defined by science fiction tropes; she expects non-humanoid features like tentacles, green skin, insectoid bodies, or vaporizing weapons. Consequently, she adamantly rejects Eris's identity as a genuine Catian alien due to Eris's human-like appearance with cat ears and tail, dismissing her as merely a cosplayer or foreigner. This disbelief persists even after official public contact between Earth and Catia. Her convictions originate in childhood: both parents were high school teachers who enforced strict upbringing rules. Permitted only science fiction media alongside academics by her father—a first-generation enthusiast who admired authors like Arthur C. Clarke and Sakyo Komatsu—this exposure profoundly shaped her worldview.

Beautiful Contact initially attempts to forcibly expel Eris to preserve their idealized first contact vision. However, when a third party captures Eris, Maki pragmatically collaborates with Kio on the rescue mission to prevent her organization's exposure. This tactical shift demonstrates operational flexibility despite her enduring skepticism about Eris's origins.

Physically, Maki stands approximately 170 cm tall and weighs 55 kg. She has brown hair, brown or aubergine-colored eyes, and typically wears glasses. A hairclip and necklace are distinctive features.
