Description
Azuma Yunoki is a third-year flute student in Class 3-B of Seiso Academy's Music Department. Born into the prestigious, business-oriented Yunoki family, he is the third son with two older brothers (Sazuma and Shizuma), an older sister, and a younger sister (Miyabi). His grandmother imposes strict expectations demanding he support his older brothers without surpassing them academically or musically. This pressure forced him to abandon piano as a child after demonstrating superior talent to one brother, leading him to take up the flute. His family views music as a temporary pursuit, insisting he quit after high school to study business in Europe and join the family enterprise.

Yunoki maintains a dual personality. Publicly, he embodies a refined, charming "prince" persona – elegant, kind, and academically accomplished – earning immense popularity at school and a devoted "Yunoki Guard" fan club. Privately, however, he reveals a cynical, manipulative, and antagonistic "Black" side, exclusively unleashed upon Kahoko Hino. He initially pressures her to quit the school concours, mocks her, and invades her personal space, later framing this behavior as teasing. This duality stems from familial repression and internal conflict, making Kahoko the sole person aware of both facets.

His character development involves gradual rebellion against family constraints. After Kahoko witnesses his grandmother's harsh treatment and learns of his burdens, she questions if his darker persona reflects his true self or a response to oppression. Yunoki progressively defies expectations, resolving to pursue his own path.

In relationships, Yunoki shares a genuine, unconditional bond with his classmate and best friend since first year, trumpeter Kazuki Hihara. His interactions with Kahoko Hino evolve from hostility to complex attraction; he exhibits jealousy when she spends time with other male competitors (Len Tsukimori, Ryotaro Tsuchiura, or Kazuki Hihara) and occasionally uses her first name, "Kahoko." Despite his feelings, he acknowledges and respects Hihara's affection for her. He is engaged in an arranged marriage to Ayano Takashina, a candidate selected by his family, but actively avoids this commitment by pretending Kahoko is his lover.

Physically, Yunoki has light purple hair, yellow eyes, and stands 172 cm tall. Beyond music, he is skilled in tea ceremony and calligraphy and enjoys collecting antiques. His flute, valued at 6.5 million yen, reflects his affluent background. His concours performances include pieces such as Grieg's "Morning Mood," Massenet's "Meditation from Thaïs," and Rachmaninov's "Vocalise."
