Description
Azuma Yunoki is a third-year student at Seiso Academy, belonging to Class 3-B within the prestigious Music Department. Born on June 18th, he is 17 years old during the events of the story. Physically, he is characterized by his light purple hair, which he wears at chest length, and sharp yellow eyes. He stands 172 centimeters tall.

Yunoki comes from a highly traditional and affluent family with a long history in business. As the third son, he has two older brothers, an older sister, and a younger sister named Miyabi. His family, particularly his grandmother, imposes strict expectations upon him. The family views music as only an acceptable pursuit for his high school years, intending for him to quit afterward to study business in Europe and eventually join the family enterprise. He originally studied piano but was forced to switch to the flute when it became clear his talent threatened to surpass that of one of his older brothers, a direct violation of his family's rules. This background of constant pressure and repression is the source of his complex personality.

Publicly, Azuma Yunoki is the embodiment of a princely ideal. He is elegant, kind, soft-spoken, and unfailingly charming to everyone he meets. His excellent grades and refined demeanor have made him immensely popular throughout the school, where he is treated as an idol and has a devoted female fan club known as the Yunoki Guard. However, this is a carefully constructed facade. Privately, Yunoki reveals a drastically different personality to a select few. This darker side is cynical, manipulative, and often antagonistic. He is prone to mocking others, invading their personal space, and making threatening remarks, all delivered with a cold and condescending tone. This hidden nature is not born from genuine malice but is a product of the suffocating constraints of his family life, representing his repressed frustration and desire for freedom.

His primary motivation throughout the story is to navigate the pressures of his family obligations while seeking a sense of personal autonomy. At the start, he views the school's music concours, and especially the presence of the general education student Kahoko Hino, as an annoyance. He initially pressures her to quit, revealing his true nature to her in an attempt to drive her away. However, Kahoko's unwavering determination and her acceptance of both his public and private selves cause him to develop a complex attraction to her. She becomes the only person who truly knows him, and his feelings evolve from hostility to genuine care and jealousy when she spends time with other male competitors. Through his interactions with her and his best friend, Kazuki Hihara, he begins to confront his own unhappiness and gradually rebels against his family's rigid plans for his future, ultimately resolving to pursue his own path, including his love for music.

In the narrative, Yunoki serves as a fellow competitor in the music concours, where his skill on the flute is highly regarded. His role is initially ambiguous, acting as a potential obstacle for the protagonist before becoming a romantic interest and ally. His key relationship is with Kahoko Hino, as it is only with her that he drops his princely mask. He shares a genuine and unconditional bond with his classmate Kazuki Hihara, a trumpeter, who has been his best friend since their first year and remains unaware of Yunoki's darker side for a significant period. He is also engaged in an arranged marriage to a girl named Ayano Takashina, a union orchestrated by his family, though he personally shows no interest in the arrangement and actively avoids it.

Yunoki experiences significant character development, moving from a resigned individual who passively accepted his family's control to someone who actively defies expectations to claim his own identity. His growing feelings for Kahoko and the support of his friends give him the courage to reject the path laid out for him. He is a skilled flutist, playing an instrument reportedly valued at 6.5 million yen. He is also proficient in traditional Japanese arts such as tea ceremony and calligraphy, and his hobbies include collecting antiques.
