Description
Ken Murata, born in Hong Kong but raised in Saitama, Japan, lives frequently alone as his IT-professional father works in Hong Kong visiting quarterly, while his lawyer mother rents an apartment near her office. He attended preschool and middle school with Shibuya Yuuri, but their close friendship began only after Yuuri intervened when delinquents bullied Murata. Murata later became manager of Yuuri's amateur baseball team, the Dandy Lions. Academically gifted, he achieved an "A" rank at Tokyo University and placed second in national examinations. His hobbies include aspiring to be a comedian—often performing the "MuraKenzu" routine with Yuuri—and supporting Germany in soccer, especially during the World Cup. He describes Yuuri as the friend he had always waited for, emphasizing their deep bond.

Murata is the current reincarnation of the Daikenja (Great Sage), who lived over 4,000 years ago in Shin Makoku, assisting Shinou in defeating Soushu and founding the Demon Kingdom. As the Daikenja, he traveled to Earth with two forbidden boxes, beginning a cycle of reincarnation. His soul carries accumulated memories from numerous past lives: Christine, an adult film actress in Hong Kong; Henri Régent, a French combat medic; a Spanish bread maker; Lampedusa, a Venetian bakery worker; an ancient Egyptian mummy maker; a Crusades-era knight; and a child who died before age ten. These memories caused significant childhood distress as he struggled to distinguish past lives from his present reality. Special training from Jose Rodriguez helps him manage the memories, though Rodriguez still corrects him when he conflates identities. Murata once nearly faced execution for revealing his true identity in a past life.

In Shin Makoku, Murata serves as an advisor to Yuuri, leveraging his extensive historical and political knowledge from his original life as the Daikenja. His presence amplifies Yuuri's magical abilities like a "power battery." He navigates complex political dynamics, particularly with the ten noble families, though figures like Gwendal occasionally dismiss his strategic suggestions. Murata efficiently handles administrative tasks like paperwork, gradually earning Gwendal's reluctant respect. He maintains a pragmatic, observant demeanor, often exchanging knowing glances with allies like Yozak during tense situations. His glasses, essential in his current life, sometimes serve as a deliberate tool for intimidation.

Murata exhibits high intelligence and multilingual capabilities, speaking Shin Makoku's language, English, and French. He possesses a dry, sarcastic sense of humor yet harbors unresolved resentment toward Shinou for burdening him with eternal memories and for Shinou's lingering presence in Yuuri and Wolfram. He finds solace in simple earthly pleasures like Japanese candy and watching movies with Yuuri—experiences missed in earlier reincarnations. Shinou's influence in others discomforts him, leading him to occasionally retreat into cheerful idiocy. Despite familial detachment, he feels warmth with Yuuri's mother, missing her affection and cookies.
