Description
Yūna Akashi, also spelled Yuuna Akashi, holds the position of student number 2 in her class at Mahora Academy. Born on June 1, she is an athletic girl known for playing basketball. She frequently joins Makie, Ako, and Akira, forming the sports clubs group, and stands out as its most mischievous member.

Her father is Professor Akashi, a Mage-teacher at the Academy. Yūna is highly protective of him and harbors a strong dislike for any woman who approaches him, reflecting a notable Electra complex. Her mother, Yūko Akashi, was a mage who died in the line of duty during a mission in Megalomesembria for Mahora, connected to the activities of Cosmo Entelecheia. This occurred amid the Great Hanshin Earthquake in January 1995, when Yūna was four years old. In accordance with her mother's final wish for Yūna's protection, her father erased her memory of all magical knowledge and raised her as a mundane person.

Before her memory alteration, Yūna spent her early childhood at Mahora Academy fully aware of her magical heritage. She developed a fondness for basketball, which her father encouraged to divert her from questions about her mother and forgotten past. Growing into a rambunctious and rowdy individual, she embraced a tomboy identity and solidified her friendships with Makie, Ako, and Akira.

Despite her father's efforts, Yūna eventually reconnected with her magical roots. While on a trip to Kyoto, she joined a pursuit of kidnappers targeting Konoka Konoe, demonstrating quick thinking and combat skills by utilizing makeshift tools and offering tactical support. After this event, Negi Springfield erased her memories of the supernatural occurrences to ensure her safety.

Yūna later cultivated a strong interest in military history and weaponry, with a focus on World War II German arms and the Halo video game series. This passion led her to join the Mahora Military Enthusiasts' Club, where she became squad leader of the elite Helljumper division in Fireteam Charlie. Outside of class, she often wears Halo memorabilia, including a Halo 3 baseball cap and an ODST windbreaker.

She formed a pactio contract with Negi Springfield as his fourteenth provisional partner. Her artifact, Iris Tormentum, is a magic gun resembling a large semi-automatic pistol. It fires a Spirit Transformation Canceling Bullet to suppress a beastfolk's alternate form and a Magic Suppression Bullet that halts all magic use for three minutes per hit.

Yūna has short hair, with its color differing across media: black in the manga and a shade of brown in both anime series. She is also noted for her physical measurements and a substantial chest size, which later becomes a source of self-consciousness.

Her character is generally easygoing and laid-back, though she possesses a deeper, more conflicted emotional side. She exhibits a genki girl personality, radiating enthusiasm and often acting as a ringleader in class hijinks. She has a weakness for unusual products from a TV shopping channel, which she records during class.

In broader multiverse narratives like the Kuro Arashi canon, her military interest is expanded, casting her as a fan of first-person shooter games. She serves as a member of the Mahora Mage Knights Defense Brigade and participates in events such as Mages vs. Mars, where she aids in recruitment and strategy detailing using her knowledge of military equipment.

Yūna's surname, Akashi, derives from the Japanese city of the same name in Hyōgo Prefecture. Her mother's name, Yūko, also functioned as the character's working name during the initial creation stages of the series.
