Mikoto Kondo is a student at Seitetsu Gakuin High School and the childhood friend of Natsuru Seno. She reconnects with Natsuru after her father, an archaeologist who lives abroad, causes her to move frequently, a lifestyle that has made her naturally adventurous and fearless in the face of danger. Mikoto is cheerful, lively, and sometimes impulsive, with a strong sense of independence. She is deeply fond of Natsuru but too proud to confess her feelings directly, instead expressing her affection through teasing and protectiveness. This romantic attachment becomes complicated when she encounters Natsuru’s female Kämpfer form, which initially confuses and frustrates her. She also grows jealous of the attention Natsuru receives from other girls, particularly Akane Mishima and Shizuku Sango.

Mikoto becomes a Kämpfer during the school’s Miss Seitetsu contest, when she catches a bouquet thrown by Kaede Sakura that contains a Messenger. She is turned into a Red Kämpfer of the Schwert type, wielding a katana as her weapon. Her Messenger is Strangled Stray Dog, an entrail animal that guides her in battle. As a Red Kämpfer, she is initially aligned against the Blue Kämpfers, though she later fights alongside Natsuru and the others as the conflict evolves. Her motivations are driven partly by Kaede’s schemes—Kaede transforms her specifically to draw out Shizuku and disrupt the Blue team—but also by her desire to protect Natsuru and understand the strange situation she has been thrust into.

Over the course of the story, Mikoto develops from a simple childhood friend into a capable fighter who learns to control her sword abilities. She struggles with the emotional turmoil caused by Natsuru’s dual identity and the romantic rivalry around him, but she remains loyal and supportive. Her notable abilities include proficient swordsmanship with her katana, as well as her resourcefulness and courage in dangerous situations. Outside of combat, she is known for her love of curry, which she cooks and consumes at almost every meal. Her relationships with other characters are defined by her loyalty to Natsuru, her rivalry with Akane and Shizuku for his affections, and her complicated role in Kaede’s larger plan. Through her participation in the Kämpfer battles, she gains a greater understanding of herself and her feelings, maturing while holding onto her energetic and adventurous spirit.
