Description
General Budai commands as a seasoned military leader in the war-torn Kosala kingdom, his prominence cemented when Chapra—a lower-caste slave masquerading as a Kshatriya—saves him from a ravaged battlefield. Grateful for his survival, Budai formally adopts Chapra, elevating the disguised outsider into Kosala’s rigid hierarchy and granting him the status needed to ascend as a commander. This calculated patronage propels Chapra into strategic prominence, eventually positioning him to lead Kosala’s forces against Siddhartha Gautama’s Shakya kingdom. Through this alliance, Budai’s legacy becomes entwined with the kingdom’s military ambitions, amplifying regional hostilities while challenging entrenched caste barriers through Chapra’s improbable rise. His actions underscore the interplay of loyalty, identity, and the societal fissures widened by perpetual conflict.
