Description
Originally a human guardian bonded to an individual wielding Gentle Darkness power—later revealed as Jaden Yuki’s past life—Yubel endured a painful metamorphosis into a duel spirit to serve eternally. The card housing Yubel’s spirit found its way into Jaden’s possession during his childhood, sparking an intensely possessive attachment. This devotion manifested as curses inflicted upon Jaden’s opponents who caused him emotional pain, like Osamu, resulting in comas.
To temper Yubel’s growing malevolence, Jaden arranged for the Yubel card and his "Elemental HERO Neos" design to be launched into space via KaibaCorp satellites. While "Neos" drew power from Neo Space, Yubel absorbed the Light of Destruction during transit. This exposure corrupted Yubel, inflicting excruciating agony and triggering insanity. The satellite’s violent reentry destroyed most of Yubel’s physical form, leaving only a forearm fragment recovered by Professor Thelonious Viper.
Exploiting Viper’s desire to resurrect his son Pierce, Yubel manipulated him into creating Bio-Bands and Survival Duels to harvest duel energy for physical reconstruction. After Viper’s defeat, Yubel discarded him and possessed Marcel Bonaparte, transforming Duel Academy students into duel-obsessed zombies to continue gathering energy. Yubel later orchestrated events across multiple duel spirit dimensions, aiming to merge them using "Super Polymerization" and rule alongside Jaden as the Supreme King. This involved possessing Jesse Anderson, imprisoning his soul within the "Rainbow Dragon" card, and deliberately manipulating Jaden’s descent into darkness.
Yubel’s ideology equated love with shared suffering, believing Jaden’s past-life affection justified inflicting agony to achieve unity. During their final duel, Jaden accepted this twisted bond, enabling a fusion that merged their existences. This act redeemed Yubel, ending the conflict and establishing a permanent partnership akin to other protagonist-guardian bonds within the franchise.
In "Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time," Yubel exists spiritually fused with Jaden. When Paradox attacks Jaden in Venice, Yubel’s influence manifests through shifts in Jaden’s eye color. Later, during the trio’s confrontation with Paradox in Pegasus’ tournament era, Jaden summons the Yubel card to disperse a crowd, preventing casualties from Paradox’s initial assault. Yubel’s spirit visibly materializes behind Jaden as he declares his duel against Paradox, confirming their enduring connection. The spirit observes the entire duel without direct interference, reflecting the post-fusion dynamic where Yubel serves as Jaden’s supportive partner.
Yubel’s design embodies duality, featuring both masculine and feminine traits, heterochromatic eyes, a vertical third eye, and a single black wing. These features persist unchanged post-redemption. The character’s card mechanics specialize in transferring battle damage to opponents and evolving into stronger forms like "Yubel - Terror Incarnate" upon destruction.
