Description
Yusei Fudo, orphaned by the Zero Reverse incident that killed his parents (lead developers of the Ener-D project), grew up in Satellite. Though haunted by guilt perceived as a "darkness in his heart," friends like Crow Hogan assured him he wasn't responsible. Raised by foster mother Martha alongside fellow orphans Jack Atlas and Crow Hogan, this bond forged his selfless, protective nature. He champions companionship, believing no one should be alone and actively encouraging others to embrace friendship.
He possesses tan skin, black hair with gold highlights, and blue eyes. His signature look features a long-sleeved blue jacket with amber gems over a sleeveless black shirt, gem-adorned gloves, black jeans with knee pads, and motorcycle boots. A jagged criminal mark is etched on the left side of his face. He bears the Mark of the Crimson Dragon—first the dragon's tail on his forearm, later replaced by the dragon head after defeating Rex Goodwin. This mark grants abilities like locating other Signers, creating barriers, resisting soul absorption or historical alteration, activating his Duel Runner's Ener-D reactor when others fail, and—with the Crimson Dragon's full power—seeing or hearing duel monster spirits or traveling through time.
Technically adept, Yusei twice built his Duel Runner, the Yusei Go, from scrap parts after Jack Atlas stole the first one along with Stardust Dragon. An expert rider and skilled fighter capable of overpowering security guards, his strategic mind extends to physics, leading Akiza Izinski to seek his academic help. He later oversaw the Ener-D project continuation, succeeding his parents. As Team 5D's captain, he excels in combat tactics and teaching Turbo Dueling, helping Akiza obtain her license.
Yusei duels with a Junk Deck focused on Synchro Summoning. His key card, Stardust Dragon, evolves into Majestic Star Dragon using "Majestic Dragon" via the Crimson Dragon's power, and later into Accel Synchro monsters like Shooting Star Dragon. He masters "Clear Mind" to control Ener-D at critical speeds, enabling Accel Synchro without the Crimson Dragon by episode 122. Eventually achieving "Limit Over Accel Synchro" with the Crimson Dragon's aid, he summons Shooting Quasar Dragon while his Duel Runner turns gold and flies. He rejects labeling any card useless, considering duelists who call cards "trash" unworthy of the title, a stance softening only if they reform, as with Bolt Tanner whom he later acknowledged as a "Genuine Duelist."
Confronting the time-traveling antagonist Paradox in *Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time*, Yusei loses Stardust Dragon when Paradox steals it using a blank card during a Turbo Duel. The theft destabilizes New Domino City, prompting the Crimson Dragon to empower his Duel Runner for time travel. Arriving in Jaden Yuki's timeline to save him from Paradox's corrupted monsters, including Stardust Dragon, Yusei explains the threat. They travel further back to Yugi Muto's era, where Paradox has killed Maximillion Pegasus and others to erase Duel Monsters. The Crimson Dragon rewinds time 30 minutes, allowing Yusei, Yugi, and Jaden to unite against Paradox. Yusei argues altering history erases people's futures, confronting Paradox's dystopian motives. Their combined efforts defeat Paradox, restoring timelines and returning Stardust Dragon.
Across all media, Yusei remains steadfast ("Fudō") in protecting others and the city, vowing to prevent another Zero Reverse even at the cost of his life. His resolve stems from the belief that bonds—not fate—shape the future.
