Description
Koma began existence as an ancient ceremonial mask discarded and forgotten by humans centuries ago. Lingering human emotions and prolonged neglect transformed the mask into an ayakashi. This profound abandonment fundamentally shaped Koma's core, defining it through profound loneliness and a crippling terror of being left behind again.

Physically, Koma manifests as a small, timid spirit taking the form of a floating white mask. The mask possesses large, expressive round eyes and a wide, frequently downturned mouth. Koma typically hovers near the ground, emitting a constant quiet whimper. Its intense anxiety visibly manifests through trembling and flowing tears.

Overwhelming anxiety, especially separation anxiety, defines Koma's existence. This fear often paralyzes Koma, resulting in constant crying, hiding, and desperate clinging to others. The human protagonist who helps resolve Koma's initial unrest becomes Koma's primary caretaker and the focus of this desperate need. Koma craves perpetual reassurance and physical proximity, dreading solitude above all else.

Koma forms a deep, dependent bond with this human caretaker. Through the human's consistent care, patience, and reassurance, Koma gradually experiences moments where its anxiety lessens. This relationship is central to Koma's development, demonstrating a capacity for growth as Koma slowly learns to trust that bonds don't inevitably end in abandonment.

A significant relationship also develops with another ayakashi, Fuzzy. Though initially terrified by Fuzzy's boisterous nature, Koma eventually forms a complex bond. Fuzzy often acts protectively towards the timid spirit, and Koma, in turn, shows moments of concern for Fuzzy, indicating an ability to form attachments beyond its primary human caretaker.

Koma possesses inherent ayakashi spiritual powers but rarely employs them aggressively due to its innate timidity. These defensive capabilities include levitation, emitting distress signals detectable by other ayakashi, and generating protective barriers when feeling extremely threatened or when protecting someone vitally important. Koma's power often surges during moments of intense protective instinct.

Koma's journey involves taking incremental steps to manage its crippling fear. While never becoming overtly brave, Koma exhibits growing instances of quiet courage, particularly when motivated by protecting its human caretaker or Fuzzy. Within the safety of established relationships, Koma learns to manage its anxiety slightly better, showing less frequent paralyzing terror when surrounded by trusted individuals.

Ultimately, Koma finds a sense of belonging and permanent residence within the household of its human protagonist and the Great Ayakashi. This stable environment provides the essential security Koma desperately needed. Acceptance and integration into this found family represent the culmination of Koma's development, moving from perpetual fear towards relative peace and belonging, though traces of its inherent anxiety remain.
