Kaori Fukuhara is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on August 11, 1986, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. She began her career in 2005 and has been active in the industry for two decades. She is 151 cm tall and has AB blood type. After starting with the agency Avex Planning & Development, where she was affiliated from 2003 to 2016, she worked as a freelancer before joining the agency bright idea on November 1, 2019.
Fukuhara decided to become a voice actress during her childhood and moved to Tokyo alone at the age of fifteen to pursue this goal. Her talent was recognized early when she won the VOICE NEW TYPE and avex mode award at a voice actor audition in 2003. She made her debut in anime in 2005 with small roles in series such as The Law of Ueki and Animal Yokocho.
Her first major breakthrough role came in 2007 when she was cast as Tsukasa Hiiragi in the highly popular series Lucky Star. This role brought her significant public attention. Along with her Lucky Star co-stars, she received the 2nd Seiyu Awards for Best Musical Performance in 2007 for the series' theme song, Motteke! Sailor Fuku. Following this success, she landed another prominent role in 2009 as Koromo Amae in the mahjong anime Saki. The same year, she voiced her first lead role as Plug Cryostat in Fight Ippatsu! Jūden-chan!!.
Fukuhara has built a diverse portfolio of roles across many popular anime series. She is known for playing genki or silly characters, a typecast that aligns with her public persona. Some of her most notable and recurring roles include Astrea in the Heaven's Lost Property franchise, Kuzuha Togashi in the Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! series, Maria Naruse in The Testament of Sister New Devil, and Nanoka Aizawa in the Wake Up, Girls! films. Other significant credits include Charlotte E. Firobisher in The Sacred Blacksmith, Run in A-Channel, and Plug Cryostat in the Juden Chan series. In 2019, she voiced Pipimi in the cult hit Pop Team Epic.
Beyond anime, Fukuhara has lent her voice to numerous video games, including Pearl Fey (Harumi Ayasato) in Gyakuten Saiban 2, Sophia in Granblue Fantasy, and Mamori Minamoto in Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE. She has also participated in dubbing foreign productions, such as the role of Lucinda in Exchange Student Zero.
Fukuhara has a long-standing and well-documented professional partnership with fellow voice actress Emiri Kato. The two formed a musical unit called Kato*Fuku in 2011, which released three albums between 2012 and 2015 before disbanding in 2016. In 2022, it was announced that the unit would regroup. They also co-hosted a creative program called the Ad Lib Animation Lab, where they would improvise dialogue for animators to draw. In addition to her duo, Fukuhara formed a unique dance unit combining voice actors with Akihabara-based b-boys, first named Kaori Fukuhara and RAB and later FUNCTION6ch. In 2021, Fukuhara announced her marriage and the birth of her first child.
