Description
Dong Zhuo Zaku serves as the tyrannical Grand Preceptor and a primary antagonist in the early stages of the conflict within the legendary land of Mirisha. His character is a direct reinterpretation of the historical tyrant Dong Zhuo from the classic Chinese epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms, reimagined through the aesthetic of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. In this reimagining, his mechanical form is based on the Zaku I, a mass-produced unit often associated with antagonist forces, and he notably incorporates design elements reminiscent of the Black Tri-Stars' Zaku I, which visually underscores his role as a powerful and oppressive military leader. His appearance is further distinguished by facial hair that mirrors classical depictions of the historical warlord, blending ancient motifs with futuristic mecha design.
In terms of personality, Dong Zhuo is defined by his ruthless ambition, political cunning, and a complete lack of concern for the well-being of others. He is a skilful politician who uses his position not to serve the realm but to further his own desire for absolute control. While initially depicted as diabolical, he becomes increasingly vicious and paranoid, ultimately descending into an indiscriminate madness where he attacks both his enemies and his own allies without hesitation. This ruthlessness makes him a source of hatred and a destabilizing force in the land. His core motivation is the conquest of Mirisha and the usurpation of the throne. He achieves this by orchestrating the assassination of the sitting Emperor, Reitei, a heinous act that allows him to steal the sacred Imperial Seal, the ultimate symbol of the emperor's authority, and declare himself the new ruler. This act of regicide plunges the entire continent into widespread chaos and sets the stage for the ensuing civil war.
Within the story, Dong Zhuo's greatest and most significant relationship is with his powerful subordinate, Lu Bu Tallgeese. Lu Bu serves as his mightiest warrior, but the relationship is founded on fear and domination rather than loyalty. In a moment of ultimate betrayal, after Dong Zhuo has been corrupted by dark power and becomes a danger to all, it is Lu Bu who turns against him. In a final confrontation, Lu Bu summons a powerful entity, leading to Dong Zhuo's dramatic death, during which his final words are a cry of betrayal toward his former champion. He is also supported by other loyal subordinates, including the strategist Li Ru Shokew and the warrior Hua Xiong Zanneck, who help enforce his tyrannical rule.
Dong Zhuo’s character undergoes a notable development from a calculated, power-hungry despot to a deranged and self-destructive monster. This descent is fueled by the corrupting influence of the very Imperial Seal he stole, as the dark energy it emits warps his mind and amplifies his worst traits. Unlike other villainous characters who later gain power from the same seal, Dong Zhuo is consumed by his own lust for it, leading to a swift and unceremonious downfall without leaving a proper legacy or final will. His primary role is to act as the catalyst for the era of warfare, as his assassination of the emperor is the immediate event that unites and spurs rival warlords like Cao Cao Gundam to action.
In combat, Dong Zhuo possesses formidable abilities befitting his status. His signature weapons include a powerful cannon mounted on his shoulder and a devastating armament known as the Six-Path Purgatory Dog, which is shaped like a pair of massive hands and can fire multiple energy projectiles, three from each side. These weapons are notably futuristic in design, standing out in a conflict where most other warriors use more traditional, ancient-style weaponry. His design and armaments emphasize his role as a final boss-type antagonist who relies on overwhelming firepower and tyrannical force to maintain his grip on power.
