Description
Makoto Misumi is the central protagonist of Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-. He was originally a high school sophomore and vice president of his archery club, living a normal life on Earth with his parents and two older sisters. Unbeknownst to him, his parents had originally come from a fantasy world and had made a contract with a goddess from that world, which resulted in Makoto being summoned to the goddess’s realm to serve as a hero. However, upon arrival, the goddess found his appearance plain and deemed him ugly. She revoked his hero status, forbade him from interacting with other humans, and threw him off the edge of the world into a wasteland. Makoto was saved by Tsukuyomi, the moon god of Earth, who granted him immense power and told him to live freely as he wished.
Makoto’s personality is defined by pragmatism, resilience, and a dry sense of humor. He is generally calm and levelheaded, often approaching problems with a logical mindset rather than emotional outbursts. Despite the betrayal he suffered, he retains a strong sense of kindness and empathy, especially toward those who are marginalized or weaker than himself. He is not driven by revenge against the goddess, but rather by a desire to build a peaceful life for himself and the beings who come to follow him. He can appear detached or even cold when dealing with enemies, but he is deeply loyal to his companions and protective of the community he establishes.
His primary motivation is to live freely without the interference of the goddess or the constraints of her world. After being abandoned, he resolves to carve his own path, and this leads him to seek out and ally with demi-humans, monsters, and other outcasts. He eventually establishes the Kuzunoha Trading Company under the alias Raidou to interact with human society while secretly governing a hidden demiplane called Asora. His role in the story evolves from a rejected victim into a sovereign leader and shrewd merchant who challenges the world’s established order.
Makoto’s key relationships shape his journey. Tsukuyomi serves as his benefactor and mentor, granting him the blessings that fuel his growth. His first and most powerful followers are Tomoe, a former greater dragon who becomes his primary strategist and spatial magic user, and Mio, a former monstrous spider who becomes his devoted protector and eventually a master chef. Later, Shiki, a former lich, joins as his intellectual advisor and butler-like assistant. These three, along with the orc chieftain Ema, form the core of his inner circle. His relationship with the goddess is openly antagonistic; she continues to view him with disdain, while he grows increasingly indifferent to her authority. He also has complex interactions with the other two summoned heroes, Hibiki and Tomoki, who were chosen in his place and who represent different responses to the power and politics of the goddess’s world.
Makoto undergoes significant development throughout the series. Initially a confused and powerless teenager abandoned in a hostile environment, he gradually gains control over his abilities and learns to lead a growing population of diverse races. He balances his expanding god-like power with a lingering human morality, often struggling with the ethical implications of his decisions. His journey forces him to confront the prejudices ingrained in the goddess’s world and to decide what kind of ruler he wants to become.
Makoto’s notable abilities stem primarily from the blessing of Tsukuyomi. He possesses an enormous mana pool due to his hyuman heritage, and his body is superhumanly strong because he was raised in Earth’s harsh environment. He is immune to all magical curses and poisons. His signature power is a multifunctional ability called Sakai, or Realm, which allows him to create a field that enhances his strength, perception, and healing, as well as that of allies within its range. He can also use a god-like ability called Creation to materialize small objects from nothing, and he wields spells such as Paradise Protector, Lunar Halo, and Sharp Blade of Determination. Although his raw magical power is immense, he initially lacks fine control, but he improves through experience and training. His combat style often combines water manipulation with close-quarters fighting, and he can channel his realm magic through his weapons. Over time, his power grows to rival that of the greater dragons and even the goddess herself.
