OVA
Description
Washu Hakubi, originally one of the three Chousin sister goddesses who created the multiverse, sealed her divine powers and consciousness within three gemstones to descend into the third dimension as a mortal. This act enabled her to search for beings surpassing the Chousin by experiencing existence without prior knowledge. Captured by an ancient civilization, she endured imprisonment in a planetary facility for over 100 million years. During this time, three bioroid clones (B1, B2, B3) were created from her. After B3's death cry awakened Tsunami, who destroyed the clones and retrieved the gems, Washu remained sealed until the facility deteriorated. Upon freeing herself, she regressed into an infant form with amnesia.
Found as a three-year-old at a monastery on planet Kanamitsu possessing only the three gems, she became a caretaker for orphaned children. Later, she became the youngest person accepted into the Department of Philosophy at the Jurai Imperial Academy, eventually defecting with her research partner Naja Akara to establish the independent Galaxy Academy. She married Mikamo Kuramitsu and gave birth to Mikamo Kuramitsu, but political strife led Mikamo to take their child, leaving Washu heartbroken. This trauma caused her to alter her physical form to that of an adolescent girl, though she could revert to an adult form. She created two children using Masu entities to harness her gems' power, but they perished in an accident, forming "Washu's Pore" crater at the Academy.
Washu created Ryoko using Masu and her own ova, making Ryoko her biological daughter, and the cabbit-spaceship Ryo-Ohki, intending them to wield the gems' power. Her assistant Kagato betrayed her, locking her for 5,000 years within her battleship Soja's interdimensional prison while brainwashing Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki into serving him. Mihoshi inadvertently freed her during a battle involving Tenchi Masaki. After Kagato's defeat, Washu moved into the Masaki household, establishing a subspace laboratory accessible through their closet. She developed a deep bond with Tenchi, linked telepathically to Ryoko's feelings for him, and took a harsh yet maternal role with Ryoko to help her overcome Kagato's emotional suppression.
During the "Final Confrontations" events, Washu observed family interactions, including Tenchi's emotional struggles following revelations about his mother's death. She intervened when Ryoko threatened Noike, discovering cells within Noike linked to Kagato's female half, sealed by Dr. Clay. After Tokimi removed the seal, the female Kagato entity separated from Noike. Washu later resumed her goddess form to save Tenchi when he was mortally wounded by Z, an agent of her sister Tokimi, risking universal stability. After confirming Tenchi as the transcendent being the Chousin sought, she prioritized his humanity over her research, convincing Tokimi to live with them.
Across other continuities, Washu's background differs. In Tenchi Universe, she was a non-divine scientist banished for creating planet-destroying weapons and imprisoned in a crystal capsule for 700 years on Earth. Freed during a conflict between Ryoko and Ayeka, she aided Tenchi against Kagato and briefly led the Universal Science Academy before exile for developing a universe-destroying weapon. She also orchestrated time travel to save Tenchi's mother from assassination. In Tenchi in Tokyo, she was a renegade scientist who helped Ryoko steal the Jurai Light Stone and detected Tenchi's latent energy.
Washu possesses abilities including teleportation, energy blade projection, telekinesis, flight, force fields, matter manipulation, and survival in space. Her intellect enables inventions like interdimensional labs, bio-organic spaceships, and reality-altering devices. The three gems contain her sealed Chousin powers, granting multiversal reality-warping abilities when unsealed, though she typically limits herself to mortal-scale powers. She is ancestrally linked to Mihoshi Kuramitsu and hypnotized Tenchi's half-brother Kenshi Masaki to protect family secrets.
