Description
May Wong is a Chinese-American performer who joined Kaleido Stage in its second season as a rival to Sora Naegino. A former competitive ice skater with Olympic potential noted by her coach Meryl, she chose circus arts over skating. May arrived harboring resentment towards Sora, blaming her for Layla Hamilton's retirement after the Legendary Great Maneuver, which fueled her ambition to surpass Sora. Her early demeanor was arrogant, bossy, and prone to barking like an angry dog when agitated; she demanded preferential treatment, including changing rooms to avoid Sora.

Their rivalry intensified during *Dracula*, where May leveraged her skating skills to win a competition against Sora for the role of Leon Oswald's partner. Leon deliberately injured her shoulder during a performance to test her character, temporarily sidelining her. Later, she partnered with Leon to win the Circus Festival, inadvertently deepening Sora's despair and causing Sora's temporary departure.

Struggling as the new lead in *Romeo and Juliet* during Sora's absence, May faced criticism from playwright Cathy Taymor for lacking emotional depth and fearing connection with her co-star. When Sora returned but declined a challenge for Juliet, May slapped her, calling her a coward. This prompted May to seek guidance from Layla and Cathy, leading to a pivotal realization: she lacked Sora's ability to engage the audience through empathy and smiling. Training focused on entertaining audiences, such as a comedic car show performance, helped her connect with viewers—including her younger siblings—and integrate better with the troupe.

Her growth continued in *Swan Lake*, where she portrayed Odile and mentored Rosetta Passel, encouraging her to perform the Eternal Illusion. She demonstrated support for Sora by preparing her a large breakfast before a major performance. Later, in *The Princess That Never Smiles*, she displayed juggling skills while riding a unicycle as one of the three fools.

In the OVA *Good da yo! Goood!!*, May's culinary skills are featured teaching Sora and Layla to cook mapo tofu. Her enthusiastic but over-spiced preparation causes Sora discomfort while Layla tolerates it calmly, reinforcing her traits as a confident cook and persistent desire to impress Layla.

Throughout her development, May evolved from a solitary rival to a collaborative performer who values camaraderie, exemplified by her eventual friendship with Sora and supportive role in others' growth.
