TV Special
Description
Kannabi-no-Mikoto, called Kanna, was the last of a rare winged race revered as deities for their formidable power. This reverence resulted in her lifelong imprisonment within shrine confines, isolated from society. She possessed distinctive purple or blue hair tied with red ribbons and bells, blue eyes, and concealed white wings beneath a pink kimono during captivity, later changed to light tan or green after her escape.

At age 16-17, Kanna fled her shrine with two companions: Ryuya, her swordsman guard, and Uraha, a servant. Their journey aimed to locate Kanna's mother, Yao Bikuni, imprisoned under a curse in the Reizan mountains. During travels, Kanna persistently practiced juggling despite failures, hoping to demonstrate it to her mother. Her feelings for Ryuya evolved from viewing him merely as a guard to deeper affection.

At Yao Bikuni's prison, Ryuya freed her from the cage. Yao warned Kanna not to touch her due to the curse, but Kanna disregarded this during emotional contact and again while weeping over her mother's body after Yao was fatally struck by an arrow. This physical contact transmitted the winged beings' curse to Kanna, dooming her and anyone she formed strong attachments to suffer illness and premature death.

After Yao's death, Kanna asked Ryuya and Uraha their wishes; they described wanting to live by the ocean. When warriors surrounded them, Kanna kissed Ryuya, deployed her wings to shield her companions, and flew skyward as a diversion. Buddhist monks invoked a binding spell, and warriors shot her with arrows. This caused her physical disappearance and bound her soul to an eternal cycle of reincarnation and suffering. Her final words to Ryuya were to "live a long time and be happy."

The curse manifested across Kanna's reincarnations, including Misuzu Kamio, who inherited the inability to form close bonds without fatal consequences and died young. Misuzu specifically manifested the curse through a mysterious illness triggered by mutual affection. Kanna's original longing for the ocean persisted in her reincarnations, with Misuzu residing near the sea.

Outside the main narrative, Kanna appears as an unbalanced playable character and final boss in the doujin fighting game *Eternal Fighter Zero*, wielding divine powers and a sword based on Kouryu's blade from *The Last Blade 2*. Her special moves reference thematic elements from *AIR*, such as "Bird's Poem," reenacting her flight before death. The *Air in Summer* special further elaborates on her journey with Ryuya and Uraha, including comedic escapades and daily interactions during their travels.
