Description
ZX-Tole originated as a Hyper-Zoanoid specifically engineered by Dr. Hamilcar Barcas within the Cronos Corporation. Created to command the elite "Hyper-Zoanoid Team Five," he was optimized using Cronos's most advanced biotechnology to surpass standard Hyper-Zoanoids in combat capability, positioning him as a strategic asset against significant threats to Cronos operations.
In his initial deployment during the Mt. Minikami conflict, ZX-Tole led Team Five in an ambush against Guyver III (Agito Makishima) during a prisoner extraction at Relic's Point. This operation revealed his tactical command role and direct oversight by high-ranking Cronos officials like Commander Richard Guyot. During subsequent missions, Team Five split into units; ZX-Tole personally led engagements against the Guyvers while coordinating hostage recovery efforts, including the capture of Sho Fukamachi's father. These missions resulted in the loss of his teammate Thancrus to Guyver III's tactics, fueling ZX-Tole's desire for vengeance.
A pivotal shift occurred when the renegade Lost Number Aptom infiltrated Relic's Point during internal Cronos upheaval. Aptom systematically consumed ZX-Tole's teammates—Elegen, Derzerb, and Gaster—gaining their abilities. ZX-Tole confronted Aptom directly, deploying his powerful "Blaster Tempest" attack which severely damaged Aptom but failed to eliminate him. During this battle, Aptom's absorption attempt forced ZX-Tole to sever his own leg to escape assimilation. This mutilation and the loss of his entire team marked a critical turning point.
Following Cronos's global takeover, a physically diminished ZX-Tole returned to Dr. Barcas. Voluntarily submitting to accelerated re-optimization, he was transformed into a Lost Number—designated "Neo ZX-Tole." This process integrated the bio-weapon capabilities of his fallen teammates into his own physiology while introducing specialized countermeasures against Aptom, including cellular antibodies and a metabolism-disrupting virus. However, this transformation carried severe penalties: his lifespan drastically shortened due to cellular decay, and he gained immunity to the Zoalords' psychic control.
As Neo ZX-Tole, he gained augmented abilities beyond his original form. These included electromagnetic force fields for defense, organic missile launchers mimicking Gaster's weaponry, high-frequency vibrational blades, and thermoregulation allowing heat-based attacks. His signature "Final Blaster Tempest" was enhanced to draw solar energy directly, amplifying its destructive potential to city-destroying levels. This upgrade came at the cost of self-annihilation upon firing the blast, a consequence he accepted due to his already limited lifespan.
Deployed to eliminate Aptom in Tokyo, Neo ZX-Tole demonstrated his new powers in a protracted battle. He countered Aptom's absorption tactics with his implanted virus and exploited integrated abilities like Elegen's heat resistance and Derzerb's strength. The conflict expanded when Guyver III intervened, leading to a three-way confrontation. This culminated in Neo ZX-Tole ascending to Earth's orbit to harness solar energy for his "Final Blaster Tempest," intending to annihilate Tokyo and all opponents. The blast was intercepted and nullified by Guyver I's "Giga-Smasher" in the Gigantic form, resulting in ZX-Tole's complete bodily disintegration.
ZX-Tole's core motivation centered on avenging his fallen Team Five comrades, particularly after Thancrus and later Elegen's deaths. This drive persisted through his transformation into a Lost Number, overriding concerns for his own survival. His leadership emphasized loyalty to his team and Cronos command structure early on, though his re-optimization severed his psychic subordination to the Zoalords. His final actions prioritized vengeance over tactical retreat, accepting self-destruction as an inevitable outcome of his mission.
