Description
Dr. Richard F. Kestner worked at Halcon Laboratories, a division of the Poseidon industrial conglomerate. He began researching cybernetics to rehabilitate victims of global war trauma, but Halcon's focus shifted toward fanatical mind control experimentation. After project lead Elizabeth Xander died in an accident, Poseidon dissolved Halcon. Kestner, retaining his extremist beliefs, concluded individual differences caused human conflict and eliminating individuality was essential for global peace.
He secretly continued Halcon's work, designing the Connexus—a multimedia device distributed to Olympus citizens containing a hidden biochip capable of overriding neural functions. This technology enabled remote control of humans and cyborgs. Kestner oversaw Elizabeth Xander’s resurrection as a cyborg to serve as the central control signal for the Connexus network. He orchestrated terrorist attacks by hacking vulnerable cyborgs, framing them to destabilize global security.
When ESWAT member Briareos Hecatonchires was severely injured in an attack, Kestner operated on him. Recognizing Briareos’s advanced cybernetics resisted remote hacking, Kestner implanted covert nanites designed to activate during adrenaline surges for direct neural takeover. During the international security conference at Tartaros, Kestner deployed robotic doves transmitting the Halcon signal. This activated the Connexus biochips, seizing control of individuals—including high-ranking officials—to stage a large-scale assault that pressured world leaders into granting Olympus control over global satellite networks.
To advance his scheme, Kestner infiltrated the satellite backup server room disguised as a technician, manipulating camera feeds. He simultaneously triggered Briareos’s nanites via a remote-controlled vehicle attack, forcing Briareos to crash Olympus’s primary server system and activate the compromised backup.
After Briareos uncovered Kestner’s involvement, he confronted him at his apartment. Kestner admitted his goal of unifying humanity by erasing individuality to end conflict. He then committed suicide before authorities arrived, framing Briareos as his murderer.
Kestner was regarded as a leading expert in cyborg and nanotechnology. His jovial demeanor masked his fanaticism, and his concealed prior association with Halcon’s unethical projects allowed him to maintain trust within Olympus’s administration and ESWAT.
