Description
Originally a clay sculpture crafted by Wataru Ikusabe for a school project, Ryujinmaru gains sentience and a mechanical form upon being infused with the spirit of the Gold Dragon—one of Shinbukai's Shinbu Dragon Gods—after Wataru is transported to Soukaizan. This dragon spirit forms Ryujinmaru's core identity and power source.
In its primary combat configuration, Ryujinmaru stands 3.75 meters tall as a humanoid robot. Its design features a blue body frame, white appendages, blue feet and wrists, and a prominent golden crown sporting three elongated dragon horns. A large red jewel set within this crown serves as the cockpit entry point for Wataru. Inside, the cockpit manifests as cosmic space reflecting Ryujinmaru's true nature, where Wataru pilots from the head of the golden-scaled dragon form representing Ryujinmaru's fundamental soul and mythological origin.
Ryujinmaru employs signature combat techniques including Dragon Fang Fist (Ryugaken), Flame Dragon Fist (Enryuken), and Dragon Thunder Fist (Ryuuraiken). Its ultimate finishing move, the Soaring Dragon Sword (Toryuken), adapts elemental attributes. The Frigid Dragon Sword (Gokukan Toryuken) channels ice energy, while the Blazing Dragon Sword (Kaen Toryuken) utilizes fire energy at the cost of depleting the user's life force. This latter technique caused Ryujinmaru's temporary destruction and transformation into a dormant yin-yang orb after its single use in Episode 20, preceding its resurrection in Episode 22.
The character demonstrates adaptability through transformations across media. In the 2020 web animation *The Seven Spirits of Ryujinmaru*, it fragments into seven distinct forms—Kenkajinmaru, Ryujinmaru Zero, Enkajinmaru, Gokujinmaru, Hikarijinmaru, Fūjinmaru, and Suijinmaru—each embodying different power aspects, requiring reassembly for restoration. The 2025 reboot *Mashin Creator Wataru* introduces new mechanical configurations while preserving Ryujinmaru's core identity as Wataru's guardian.
