Description
Karala Ajiba is the younger daughter of Doba Ajiba, Supreme Commander of the Buff Clan military. Sent to investigate the powerful mecha Ideon discovered by Earth colonists on Solo, she becomes stranded after disobeying orders and separating from her forces. Mistaken for a human colonist by Solo's military leader, Bes Jordan, she is brought aboard the Solo Ship connected to the Ideon. When her alien identity is discovered, she is held captive. Her consistent cooperation and compassionate nature gradually earn acceptance from the crew, despite initial distrust from figures like Sheryl Formosa and Kasha Imhof.
A romantic relationship develops with Bes Jordan, marked by mutual respect and his unwavering protection even after her origins are known. This bond deepens, resulting in her pregnancy with Bes's child. The pregnancy emerges approximately four months later during a confrontation with her father on the Buff Clan flagship. Cosmo Yuki and others symbolically name the child "Messiah," representing a fragile hope for peace amid escalating conflict.
Karala consistently aligns herself with the Solo Ship crew. She provides critical insights into Buff Clan culture and the "Legend of Ide," a prophecy about a savior linked to the Ideon. She risks her life to protect others, such as saving the infant Piper Lou during an attack. Her attempts to broker peace with her sister, Harulu Ajiba, fail due to Harulu's vindictiveness and the Buff Clan's insistence on annihilating the Solo Ship.
Her defection and pregnancy brand her a traitor to the Buff Clan, prompting her father to order her execution. In the climax, Harulu boards the Solo Ship and shoots Karala in the face. The Ide—a sentient cosmic force powering the Ideon—intervenes, sustaining her child's life and absorbing Karala to protect the unborn Messiah during the final battle as the Buff Clan's superweapon, the Gando Rowa, fires upon the Solo Ship.
Karala perishes in the mutual destruction of the Solo Ship, Ideon, and much of the Buff Clan fleet. Afterwards, her spirit, alongside Bes's, appears in a cosmic reunion of the dead. Their child, Messiah, leads the collective souls of both humans and Buff Clan toward a new, reborn Earth, symbolizing a cyclical renewal of existence.
