Description
"Space Runaway Ideon: Be Invoked" is a 1982 anime film that serves as the conclusion to the "Space Runaway Ideon" series, directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino. The narrative picks up after the events of the TV series, focusing on the escalating conflict between the human colonists of the planet Solo and the alien Buff Clan. The story centers on the Ideon, a mysterious and immensely powerful mecha, and its connection to the Ide, an enigmatic energy source believed to hold the key to the universe's creation and destruction.

The human colonists, led by the young protagonist Cosmo Yuki, continue to pilot the Ideon in their desperate struggle against the Buff Clan, who seek to harness the Ide's power for their own purposes. As the war intensifies, the Ideon's capabilities grow, revealing its potential to trigger catastrophic events on a universal scale. The Buff Clan, under the leadership of Commander Doba Ajiba and the spiritual guidance of Karala Ajiba, who has allied with the humans, becomes increasingly desperate to control the Ideon.

The narrative explores themes of existential dread, the futility of war, and the cyclical nature of destruction and rebirth. As the conflict reaches its climax, the Ideon's power spirals out of control, leading to a cataclysmic event known as the "Ideon Gun" phenomenon. This event results in the annihilation of both the Buff Clan and the human colonists, with the Ideon and its pilots seemingly consumed by the Ide's energy. The film concludes with an ambiguous yet haunting depiction of the universe's potential rebirth, leaving the ultimate fate of the characters and the Ideon open to interpretation.

Key characters include Cosmo Yuki, the determined and resourceful pilot of the Ideon; Karala Ajiba, a Buff Clan princess who defects to the human side and forms a bond with Cosmo; and Bes Jordan, a seasoned soldier who serves as a mentor figure to the younger pilots. The film's narrative is driven by the interplay between these characters and their struggle to survive in a universe teetering on the brink of annihilation. The story's somber tone and philosophical undertones distinguish it as a seminal work in the mecha genre, offering a stark exploration of humanity's place in the cosmos.
