Yoko Asagami is a Japanese voice actress and kōdanshi, a traditional Japanese storyteller, born on July 10, 1952, in Otaru, Hokkaido. She is affiliated with the talent agency Aksent. Asagami has been active in the voice acting industry since 1972 and continues to perform, with her career spanning over five decades. She is married and uses the name Yoko Okubo in her private life.

Asagami has expressed a desire to be a voice actress since childhood, drawn to the bold movements of anime and the expressive power of the voice. To study acting, she trained in traditional performance arts such as the song form itchu-bushi and the pantomime dance jiuta-mai.

She is widely recognized for two major roles: Yuki Mori in the Space Battleship Yamato franchise and Saeko Nogami in the City Hunter series. Her role as Yuki Mori began with the original Space Battleship Yamato series in 1974 and continued in numerous films, including Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, Be Forever Yamato, and Final Yamato. Her portrayal of Saeko Nogami began in the 1987 City Hunter television series and has continued for decades, appearing in multiple films and television sequels such as City Hunter '91, Angel Heart, and the 2023 film City Hunter: Angel Dust.

Beyond these signature roles, Asagami's extensive filmography includes a wide variety of characters across many classic anime series. In the Galaxy Express 999 franchise, she voiced Claire, a tragic glass-bodied waitress, and Metalmena. She played Harulu Ajiba in Space Runaway Ideon and Layla Mineri in Galactic Gale Baxinger. Her other notable roles include Mrs. Hudson in Sherlock Hound, Nell Trent in Sasurai no Shōjo Nell, Beth March in Little Women, Odille in the anime film Swan Lake, and Belfy in The Littl' Bits.

Asagami has also voiced characters in numerous original video animations and films. Her OVA work includes roles such as Akemi Ito in Urotsukidoji, Keiko Mekata in Doomed Megalopolis, Rydia Cooley in Yukikaze, and Baraluda in Queen Emeraldas. In feature films, she has appeared as Mineko in Okko's Inn and as Rufin in Doraemon: Nobita's Great Adventure in the South Seas.

Her recurring collaborations include long-standing roles within the works of creator Leiji Matsumoto, such as Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999, and Queen Emeraldas. She has also consistently voiced characters in the City Hunter universe across multiple decades and installments.

In addition to voice acting, Asagami is a distinguished practitioner of kōdan, a form of traditional Japanese storytelling. In 1992, she began studying under the master Teisui Ichiryusai, and by 2004, she had become a star performer, known as a kōdanshi. When performing as a storyteller, she uses the art name Harumi Ichiryusai. She has used this name for her voice acting work since 2012.

Asagami has also worked extensively in dubbing foreign films and television series into Japanese. Her dubbing roles include Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man films, Ashima Ganguli in The Namesake, and Betty Douglas in 1941. She has also voiced characters in video games, such as Lian Xing in the Syphon Filter series and Princess Sarah in World of Final Fantasy.
