Akemi Ito is a human student at Myōjin University who becomes the girlfriend of Tatsuo Nagumo, the human destined to father the Chōjin, a supreme being prophesied to unite the three realms. Her role as the future mother of the Chōjin places her at the center of the prophecy. In the anime, she is portrayed as young, innocent, and naive, retaining a compassionate outlook even as apocalyptic events unfold, including the merging of the three worlds and Nagumo’s transformation into the Demon of Destruction. She faces threats such as a violent assault by the demon-possessed teacher Togami, from which she is rescued. As the Chōjin’s mother, she possesses near invulnerability, protected by the Chōjin’s power from all harm except the Kyō-Ō, and she cannot commit suicide. In The Final Chapter, she gives birth to the Chōjin, awakens in a hospital, survives Jyaku Amano’s confrontation with the newborn deity, and endures Nagumo’s continued devastation of the Earth.
