Description
Ruti Ragnason, younger sister of Gideon Ragnason (later known as Red), was born bearing the "Hero's Blessing," the rarest and most powerful divine blessing. This destiny designated her the destined leader to defeat the Demon Lord. The blessing granted immense combat abilities, including immunity to confusion, berserk, and sleep effects, plus skills like Deep Shadow Blade. However, it suppressed emotions deemed unnecessary for her quest, resulting in a reserved, quiet, and outwardly emotionless demeanor. Internally, she harbored deep feelings, particularly an obsessive attachment to her brother Gideon, who served as her primary emotional anchor within the Hero's Party.
This emotional suppression proved nearly absolute. Only extreme rage briefly overcame it when she discovered Ares Srowa, the party's second-in-command, had orchestrated Red's banishment. Her fury nearly drove her to kill Ares, though the blessing forcibly reasserted control and compelled her to heal him. Ruti never desired the Hero role, resenting how it overrode her will and terrified her with its erosion of her humanity. Historically, previous Heroes lost their hearts entirely, implying Ruti faced the same fate without intervention.
Following Red's departure, Ruti openly rejected Ares's marriage proposals three times. She later abandoned her role as Hero after Ares's betrayal and death, developing a new blessing called "New Truth." This new blessing allowed her to dominate and suppress the Hero's Blessing, restoring her suppressed emotions. This enabled her departure from the Hero's Party, which subsequently disbanded, allowing her to join Red in the frontier town of Zoltan.
In Zoltan, she lives as a civilian, working in Red's apothecary shop and later establishing an herb farm with her close friend and former assassin, Tisse Garland. Though no longer the Hero, she retains her combat prowess, registering as a B-rank adventurer. Adjusting to ordinary life proves complicated, with occasional displays of her superhuman abilities during mundane tasks requiring Tisse to mitigate suspicions. She maintains a profound brother complex, desiring to marry Red despite societal norms preventing it, and has reluctantly accepted his wife, Rit, as a sister-in-law. Ruti and Rit maintain a friendly relationship, often playfully teasing Red together.
Her resignation led to the rise of a new Hero, Van, who embraces the blessing's corrosive effects. Van's fundamentalist adherence to his blessing contrasts sharply with Ruti's rejection of it, highlighting her choice to prioritize humanity over destiny. Ruti harbors no sympathy for Ares, attending his funeral without remorse for his demise.
