Description
Ares Srowa, scion of a disgraced noble lineage once led by a deposed duke, bore the rare “Sign of the Sage” blessing, endowing him with formidable magical talent. Fueled by relentless ambition to reclaim his family’s lost prestige and seize personal dominance, he infiltrated the Hero’s Party, exploiting his strategic mind and divine gift to cement his indispensability. His rigid belief in a hierarchy dictated by blessings bred contempt for those he deemed inferior—even kin—solidifying his cold, elitist worldview.

Outwardly charismatic and empathetic, Ares concealed a calculating, self-obsessed core. Consumed by envy toward Gideon Ragnason (later called Red), whom he saw as a rival for Ruti Ragnason’s favor, he engineered Red’s expulsion through calculated deceit. Falsely branding Red’s “Guide” blessing a liability, he convinced the party the departure was voluntary, sowing discord that fractured trust among Yarandrala, Danan LeBeau, Tisse Garland, and ultimately Ruti herself, hastening the group’s collapse.

Ares’ fixation on Ruti transcended strategy; he envisioned marriage as a ladder to societal resurrection, dismissing her agency. His manipulative pleas for her to persist against the Demon Lord post-Red’s exile provoked her defiant renunciation of the Hero’s mantle—a humiliation that shattered his tenuous grip on sanity, intensifying his delusional vendetta against Red.

In battle, he wielded intermediate-tier spells like Fire Blast, Fire Storm, and Tornado Attack, yet his physical fragility and tactical shortsightedness left him vulnerable. Overreliance on his blessing’s prestige blinded him to battlefield realities, dooming engagements against the Demon Lord’s armies. During his final clash with Red, Tisse’s spider familiar ensnared him, allowing Red to sever his hands and pierce his chest with Ruti’s blade. Ares perished begging for mercy, his delusions of supremacy crumbling alongside his lifeless form.

His legacy endured as a cautionary tale of treachery. Though granted a funeral, absences like Theodora Dephilo’s and Yarandrala’s underscored lingering scorn. The Hero’s Party disbanded posthumously, its remnants retreating to Zoltan with Red and Ruti.

Ares’ interactions were transactional webs of manipulation and spite. He targeted Red as a usurper, bound Tisse through contractual coercion, and alienated allies with arrogance. Incapable of authentic bonds and blind to his hubris, he spiraled into solitary ruin—a downfall etched by his own venom.
