Description
Ayaka Mizusawa, 14, is the younger sister of Manaka Mizusawa and a second-year student at Kinugawa Junior High. Born on February 2 in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, she stands just 151 cm tall. This small stature and her perceived lack of physical strength compared to peers give Ayaka a complex, driving her to work hard to close the gap with her older sister and friends. Despite these insecurities, she proves capable of decisive action in critical moments and shows resilience. Ayaka plays right-handed as the left defenceman (LD) for the Nikko Dream Monkeys ice hockey team, where her position and youth also make her the team's unofficial mascot. Her journey focuses on overcoming physical limitations to earn her team place, highlighted early by her struggle to pass the demanding 100-lap skating test required for full membership. Intensive training and encouragement from teammates, especially Manaka, Riko Saginuma, and Naomi Takagi, fuel her perseverance and ultimate success, showcasing her growth through effort and teamwork. Ayaka deeply admires Manaka, feeling pressure to match her sister's enthusiasm and skill, a dynamic that simultaneously fuels her determination. Her commitment extends beyond hockey; when the original Embroidery Club members, including Manaka, move to high school, Ayaka steps up as club president, demonstrating her willingness to embrace responsibility and leadership. While her physical development remains a theme, Ayaka evolves from seeking validation to actively contributing within the team framework, embodying mutual support and incremental progress.
