Description
Mirai Kaname, an orphan residing in Harajuku, Tokyo, seeks her missing father. This quest drives her into the demon world, the Expanse. Accompanied by her demon partner, a pink griffon named Veil, she battles adversaries and uncovers clues about her father's fate. Her journey reveals startling truths: guided by her mother's ghost and the demon Mammon, she learns her father is Lucifer, ruler of the Expanse, and that the man she knew was actually the demon Azazel in disguise. Mirai ultimately frees the imprisoned Lucifer and confronts her half-brother, Nagahisa Kai, defeating him.
Mirai's path crosses with Setsuna Kai, her neighbor and fellow devil child. Initially deceived into believing Setsuna plans to destroy the Expanse, Mirai clashes with him. However, during a tournament in Marble Land, they recognize their shared goals and the manipulation that turned them against each other. They then cooperate to collect the Messiah Horns and Eyes, crucial artifacts for accessing the Oracle chamber and shaping the world's destiny.
Later, Mirai appears in *Devil Children White Book*, sharing an apartment with Setsuna. When demons target Masaki Kuzuha for disrupting angelic schemes, Mirai learns of his plight through friends and resolves to aid him. A playable epilogue allows her to temporarily exchange demon partners with Masaki.
In *DemiKids: Light & Dark*, Mirai serves as an A-Rank BattleNet opponent. Winning two A-Rank battles triggers her awakening to demonic heritage, marked by an inverted star on her forehead and demon-like eyes. Defeating her multiple times grants the player Gef-type demons.
The anime *Shin Megami Tensei: DeviChil* presents a variation: Mirai and Setsuna work under her grandfather, Hiromi Kaname, investigating disturbances caused by Lucifer-marked demons. They travel to the Expanse to prevent Lucifer's plot to dominate both worlds. Here, Mirai is fiery-tempered yet determined, collaborating with Setsuna and allies to protect humanity and the demon world.
Mirai possesses a strong sense of justice and combat skill, notably besting Setsuna consistently in kendo. Her journey evolves from a determined search for truth to a central role in resolving conflicts among demons, angels, and humans. Her lineage as Lucifer's daughter grants unique abilities, including the potential to replace the creator entity Hoshigami in certain endings, reshaping the worlds and reviving the deceased. Her name, Mirai (未来), means "future," and her surname, Kaname (要), signifies "keystone" or "pivot," reflecting her pivotal role in the battle for both worlds' fate.
