Kintarou Sakata, known as Kin-chan, is Kazuma Tamura's classmate and best friend at their Gekkō-chō elementary school. His affluent family lives in a mansion crowning the Sakata Apartment building, owned by his father. Kin-chan habitually wears a traditional *haragake* apron emblazoned with the "gold" (金) kanji.

He displays a kind-hearted nature and peppers his speech with the distinctive "desū" ending. Lollipops are his favorite treat, frequently seen in his hand. He possesses a stuffed doll called Tsukkii, which sometimes animates into a larger form near the Moonlight Pond.

Kin-chan shares close bonds with Kazuma and classmates like Komachi Ono, consistently exhibiting the everyday behaviors of an elementary school student throughout all seasons and adaptations.
