Harumi Ikoma
Description
Harumi Ikoma is a Japanese voice actress born on February 5, 1970, in Osaka Prefecture. She is affiliated with the talent agency J Production. A graduate of the Faculty of Letters at Tezukayama Gakuin University, Ikoma began her career in 1992, initially working in Osaka on local radio, television commercials, and as a narrator. Her early career was significantly shaped by her work with the game developer SNK, where she provided voices for numerous characters in their fighting games.
Ikoma is perhaps best known for her extensive and long-running contributions to SNK's game franchises. She became the definitive voice for several iconic characters, including the Ainu shrine maiden Nakoruru from the Samurai Shodown series, a role she originated and played across many titles and related media for years. She also voiced the French swordswoman Charlotte Christine de Colde in the same series. In the Art of Fighting and The King of Fighters series, she is renowned as the voice of the gender-concealing kickboxer King. Her other long-standing SNK roles include the undercover agent Blue Mary from the Fatal Fury series and a brief stint as Yuri Sakazaki in the first Art of Fighting game. Her association with these characters has spanned decades, with her portrayal of King continuing in titles such as The King of Fighters XV released in 2022, making her one of the longest-serving voice actors for a single SNK character.
In 1996, Ikoma moved to Tokyo to broaden her career, leading to numerous roles in television animation. Some of her most prominent anime roles include the energetic and kind-hearted Fuka Matsui in Kodocha, the character Kintarou Sakata, affectionately known as Kin-chan, in the long-running series Ojarumaru, and Shoko Maruyama in the Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl series. Her other anime credits from this period include roles in Hatsumei Boy Kanipan, Chō Hatsumei Boy Kanipan (as Nuts), Yoshimoto Muchikko Monogatari (as Tentoumushihanako), and the OVA Samurai Spirits 2: Asura Zanmaden, where she reprised her role as Nakoruru.
Beyond acting, Ikoma was also the first host of a radio program called Neo Chubi, which ran from 1997 to 2001 and focused on SNK-related news and products. Her influence within the SNK fandom was such that she was referenced as a non-player character named Harumi in the video game SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash. She has also performed character image songs for SNK at special events and on various drama CDs and vocal collections. Her legacy is firmly tied to a generation of fighting game fans, for whom her voice defined some of the most beloved characters in the genre.
