Description
Libra Dohko is the Gold Saint of the Libra constellation in the anime Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold. Of Chinese descent, he is one of only two survivors of the previous Holy War against Hades that took place 243 years before the events of the classic series, the other survivor being Aries Shion. For many years, Dohko lived in seclusion at the Five Old Peaks of Rozan, using the technique Misopethamenos to slow his heartbeat and prolong his life so that he could stand guard over the seal that imprisoned the 108 Malignant Stars of Hades. He is widely known as the master of the Dragon Bronze Saint Shiryu and is deeply respected by the other Gold Saints, who often refer to him as the Sage or the Old Master.
In Soul of Gold, Dohko is brought back to life along with the other eleven Gold Saints after they sacrificed their lives to destroy the Wailing Wall and help Athena and the Bronze Saints reach Elysium. He awakens in Asgard, a realm that has fallen under the influence of Andreas Lise, who is secretly the vessel for the Norse trickster god Loki. The God Warriors under Andreas are using the sacred tree Yggdrasil to absorb the Cosmo of the revived Gold Saints. Dohko and his comrades must fight to uncover the truth behind their resurrection and protect Asgard from this new threat.
During Soul of Gold, Dohko displays a notably different personality from his earlier appearances. In the original series, he was portrayed as a wise, elderly, and composed figure. In Soul of Gold, having been restored to a younger and more vigorous state, he becomes considerably more playful, mischievous, and lighthearted. This shift reflects a return to the temperament he had in his youth, when he was known for a more impulsive and fierce fighting style. Despite this change in demeanor, he retains his deep wisdom, strategic insight, and unwavering loyalty to Athena. He remains a trusted adviser to his fellow Gold Saints and a steadying presence in battle.
Dohko shares a particularly close bond with Aries Shion, his old friend and fellow survivor of the previous Holy War, and he is likewise highly regarded by Aries Mu, who calls him Sage out of admiration. His relationship with the other Gold Saints is one of mutual respect and camaraderie, as they all fight together as equals in the struggle against Loki and the God Warriors.
In terms of abilities, Dohko is a master of the Rozan school of martial arts. His signature techniques include Rozan Hundred Dragons, which unleashes a barrage of dragon-shaped Cosmo attacks, and he is also renowned for his tremendous physical strength and hand-to-hand combat prowess. The Libra Cloth is unique among the Gold Cloths because it carries six built-in weapons: a sword, a spear, a shield, a tonfa, a double-barreled rod, and a triple-barreled rod. These weapons are said to possess the power to shatter stars, and they can only be used with the authorization of Athena. While Dohko is fully capable of fighting with these arms, his own fighting spirit and raw power are already formidable. Over the course of Soul of Gold, his Cosmo intensifies to the point that he awakens the Divine Cloth of Libra, a transcendent form of his armor that grants him greatly enhanced power to face the god-level threat of Loki. This divine awakening is a testament to his immense inner strength and his dedication to his sacred duty.
