Description
In Transformers: Energon, Megatron is the resurrected leader of the Decepticons, having survived his apparent death at the end of the previous series, Transformers: Armada. At the start of Energon, his body lies dormant within the remains of Unicron, partially fused into the planet‑eater’s structure. The enigmatic Alpha Q, seeking to revive Unicron, uses Megatron’s own spark to forge a sword and enlists Scorponok to gather energon under the pretense of restoring Megatron. However, Megatron secretly siphons the collected energon for himself, restoring his body and emerging with a sleeker, more powerful form. He quickly reclaims command of the Decepticons and adopts a new alternate mode—a space warship.
Megatron’s personality is marked by cold ruthlessness, regal formality, and an insatiable hunger for power. He speaks with calculated politeness but is utterly merciless toward opposition; any insubordination is violently crushed. He is aware of his own megalomania and embraces it. His primary motivation is universal conquest, but he is also driven by an obsessive rivalry with Optimus Prime. He cannot tolerate any force greater than himself and seeks to subjugate or absorb it, even the god‑like Unicron.
His role in the story is the central antagonist, driving the conflict after his resurrection. He initially manipulates Alpha Q’s plan to revive Unicron, intending to use the chaos‑bringer as a pawn. As the series progresses, he succeeds in reanimating Unicron, but the dark god’s consciousness begins to possess him, leading to a struggle for control. After Unicron’s body is destroyed, Megatron’s own spark becomes fused with Unicron’s essence, which later guides him to a reservoir of Super Energon beneath Cybertron.
