Description
Matsuzō Matsuno is the father of the Matsuno sextuplets. He has a short, plump build with a large nose, prominent buckteeth, and a distinctive curly mustache. His appearance includes closely-shaved hair on the sides, and he typically wears suits or casual long-sleeved tops with pants. Later manga serializations depict him as shorter and squatter.

Originally the owner of the liquor shop "Mimatsuya," Matsuzō became a salaryman to better support his family before his sons' birth. Media adaptations show conflicting origins for the family home regarding the shop's conversion, with later depictions lacking storefront elements. The household suffers financial instability because Matsuzō constantly loses or drops his work checks, leading to situations where the family goes hungry or the children must find work.

His personality mixes strictness with helplessness. He frequently tries in vain to discipline his rowdy sons, thwarted by their antics and his own inefficacy. Despite these struggles, he occasionally displays a laid-back side, such as dismissing his son Osomatsu’s demands, only to be scolded by his wife Matsuyo. He endures significant stress from workplace pressures and chaotic family life.

His relationships highlight his ineffectual authority; his sons often overrule or ignore him. His marriage involves shared frustrations, with Matsuyo sometimes joining in scolding him during disputes. In later continuations, he continues living with his adult sons, maintaining a similarly strained dynamic where the brothers exploit his passive nature.

He is a known fan of the Chunichi Dragons baseball team. Inconsistencies exist regarding his name, including its adaptation as "Matsutarō" in a live-action drama because the original name "Matsuzō" appears only once in the manga chapter "French Etiquette." No significant character development or unique background details are documented for Matsuzō across films, OVAs, or spin-offs.
