Kizuna Kazayama hails from an alternate Japan mirroring modern times. Her entry into the virtual reality healing MMO "Second Life" triggered her summoning as one of the four Cardinal Heroes in Glass's world, specifically becoming the Hunting Hero wielding the Legendary Hunting Tool. Summoned earlier than her counterparts, Kizuna's initial task involved defeating a rogue demon dragon emperor. During this mission, she encountered Glass, then proving her worth to wield the Vassal Fan, forging a deep friendship. Glass gifted Kizuna a treasured haori. Together, they created Chris, a penguin-like shikigami familiar possessing significant combat capabilities and the capacity for lethal force when required. Captured later due to her Hunting Tool's inherent limitation—it inflicts direct damage solely against monsters, not humans or similar beings—Kizuna was imprisoned within the pocket dimension known as the Infinite Labyrinth. She endured years of isolation there. Her escape became possible only when Naofumi Iwatani and Rishia Ivyred, pursuing the antagonist Kyo Ethnina, were pulled into the same labyrinth. Inside the labyrinth, Kizuna demonstrated extensive environmental knowledge, having mapped much of it during her confinement. She guided Naofumi’s party, revealing a structural "bug" allowing them to breach its boundaries. Her personality reflected optimism and a strong belief in cooperation, contrasting Naofumi’s initial distrust. She openly disapproved of Glass, L'Arc Berg, and Therese’s prior plan to invade other worlds and kill their heroes to save their own from the Waves of Calamity. Upon reuniting with them, Kizuna confronted their methods, advocating for solutions that didn't require sacrificing other worlds or their protectors. Kizuna’s Legendary Hunting Tool typically appears as a folded fishing rod at her waist. In combat, it transforms into weapons like a maguro bōchō. Its effectiveness is exclusive to monsters, granting stat boosts and special abilities against them but rendering it useless against humans or demi-humans. Like other Legendary Weapons, it changes forms within its category, gains experience through use, and allows attaching special papers to alter properties. This limitation forces Kizuna to rely on allies like Chris or companions such as Naofumi’s party against human adversaries. After escaping, Kizuna actively collaborated with Naofumi to counter Kyo Ethnina. She played a key role in subduing Kyo’s follower, Yomogi Emarl, taking her home for interrogation. Through discussions of their shared past with Kyo, Kizuna exposed his fraudulent goal of creating Calamity Waves, persuading Yomogi to defect. Beyond combat, Kizuna maintains a trusted business relationship with the blacksmith Romina, whom she considers the best in her field. Naofumi noted her negotiation and strategic planning abilities, observing similarities between Kizuna’s dealings with Romina and his own with Erhard. She also leverages her friendship with Ethnobalt, the Vassal Boat Hero, valuing his transportation skills and shared preference for peaceful resolutions. Kizuna shifted from isolation to active leadership within the alliance against Kyo. She coordinated equipment upgrades for Naofumi’s party using resources secured through L'Arc (revealed as Sikul's young king) and participated in direct confrontations during Kyo’s accelerated Waves of Calamity. Her worldview solidified around protecting interconnected worlds without resorting to destroying others, positioning her as a moral counterpoint to more ruthless approaches.
