OVA
Description
Miaka Sukunami, originally Miaka Yuki, began as a 15-year-old junior high student studying for entrance exams with her best friend Yui Hongo. Their lives transformed when transported into the ancient Chinese-inspired world within "The Universe of the Four Gods" book. There, Miaka became the Priestess of Suzaku, tasked with gathering the seven Celestial Warriors to summon the god and gain three wishes. Initially motivated by academic success and reuniting with Yui, her priorities shifted after falling in love with the warrior Tamahome, focusing instead on protecting Konan and their relationship.

Her personality blends optimism, generosity, and self-sacrifice, though naivety and impulsiveness frequently led her into peril. A notable weakness is her obsession with food, often exploited by enemies. Strained family dynamics, particularly with her mother, fueled a people-pleasing nature and deep-seated guilt. After summoning Suzaku, Miaka used her final wish to restore her world destroyed during Suzaku's battle with Seiryuu, resulting in Tamahome's return to the book universe.

Tamahome later reincarnated in the real world as Taka Sukunami, retaining fragmented memories. Miaka reunited with him and they married. In the OVA *Fushigi Yugi Eikoden*, Miaka Sukunami, expecting her first child with Taka, faced conflict from Mayo, a younger student envious of their relationship. When Mayo entered the book universe to alter events and endangered its stability, Miaka subconsciously transferred her unborn daughter's spirit into Mayo to forge a connection between worlds. This act rendered Miaka comatose in the real world.

While comatose, her consciousness remained linked to the book universe, observing Mayo's actions as a false priestess. Miaka intervened critically when a corrupted Suzaku was summoned, using her bond with her unborn child to weaken the entity, enabling Taka to defeat it. Resolving this crisis restored balance and awakened Miaka from the coma. She later gave birth to a daughter named Hikari. This arc highlighted her evolution from a dependent teenager to a protective figure willing to leverage profound personal sacrifices for broader stability.
