Description
Azumi Hidaka, a 13-year-old student with a notoriously brash and impatient personality, harbors a fierce rivalry with Katie due to their shared crush on Dylan Yuki. Born on November 11, she has a seldom-seen younger brother. Her life intertwines with Yatch, a ninja-esque muglox summoned by filling a yellow mug with barley tea. Their partnership teeters between hostility and reluctant camaraderie—Azumi routinely orders Yatch to complete chores, treating him like a servant, yet sporadically reveals tenderness beneath her harshness. Yatch’s compulsive doodling of girls’ underwear repeatedly mortifies her, fueling their friction.

Introduced as vain and combative, Azumi relentlessly schemes against Katie, sabotaging her romantic prospects with Dylan through physical clashes or calculated ploys. Gradually, layers emerge: she oscillates between selfishness and unexpected loyalty, aiding friends when it suits her resolve. The fourth season sees her confronting Katie in a decisive showdown over Dylan’s affections, which Katie wins. Though Azumi concedes defeat, she sternly cautions Katie against hurting Dylan, begrudgingly accepting their bond.

Temporarily transformed into a fairy to aid the muglox world—spurred by Dylan’s stake in the crisis—Azumi later pivots in the manga, pursuing short-lived romances with Sumita and Hirai after abandoning her pursuit of Dylan. She unintentionally garners admiration from Sasuke and Hanzo, who idolize her boldness.

Visually, Azumi sports dark hair in the anime and vibrant red locks in the manga, her hair spiking dramatically during anger. Prone to violent outbursts targeting Katie, she also exhibits covert compassion, notably when striving to reverse Yatch’s near-permanent petrification after he sacrifices himself for her wish. This act underscores a buried loyalty contrasting her typically overbearing demeanor.

Evolving from a single-minded rival to a nuanced figure embracing growth, Azumi retains her assertive edge while navigating defeat. The manga expands her journey beyond the anime, probing her post-Dylan romantic trials and social influence, yet her impatience and competitive streak remain unyielding constants.
